[FIXED] Frequent crash to desktop when tracking two targets in TWS

Recommended Posts

On open beta, I am getting regular crashes when using TWS in multiplayer to track two contacts and when switching back and forth between them with the S2 left command. Unfortunately the track is larger than 5MB and cannot be attached! If you have any other recommendations about how to provide the track file please let me know. Attached is the crash log file.

I was able to get the BVR instant action to freeze DCS as well but it crashed in a way that I couldn't get a track out of it. It was in the version where you fight two F16's. It seems using TWS to target two aircraft in a complex environment causes the game to freeze and crash regularly but I can't pinpoint exactly what causes it.

Hey, I just got the same bug while engaging 2 bandits in TWS with SD10 so I thought I'll add my information here.

I can open a new thread if needed.

My crash had the same callstack as the original poster's:
2020-12-10 03:05:57.857 INFO    EDCORE: 0x00000000001D2FD8 (JF-17_ASM): ed_fm_debug_watch + 0xED38
2020-12-10 03:05:57.857 INFO    EDCORE: 0x00000000001CE91E (JF-17_ASM): ed_fm_debug_watch + 0xA67E
See my attached crash zip

I can't provide the track as it's 150Mo 🙂 It's a big mission.

I don't have precise repro steps to reproduce it 100% however, I can give you the maximum context I can.

I was flying with my Viggen buddy on a dedicated server.

I was carrying [PL5 2-SD10 Mk83 Mk83 Mk83 SD10 PL5]

Defoging was on if it matters 🙂

I TWS-locked the 2 J11A bandits ; fired ; killed one ; the other SD10 was evaded ; fired again on both (I didn't see the first splash) and the crash happened when my missile hit the second bandits.

I will attached a cut of the server's tacview and a screenshot of the moment of the crash.

Even if the missile hit the bandit at the moment of the crash, you can see in tacview that, for the server, the bandit was not destroyed and carried-on attacking my friend.

It makes me think the crash happened when the SD10 hit the bandit and the crash prevented my client to send missile update to the server and thus the bandit lived?

I really like the JF-17 and I hope this will help!

Thanks

thanks for the detailed info

btw, have you encountered this ctd in single player mission?

I only seriously play DCS in multiplayer so I can't say for sure.

I only play single player to do fast unit-testing of my missions with strategically-placed-invulnerable-fast-to-load su27 🙂

Even more, I mostly play cooperatively with my friend on missions I create and on a dedicated server located next to my personal computer.

All this to said my ping is like 4ms and I usually play against AIs if it matters.

I usually assume the role of escort so I had a lot of TWS BRV fights against 1 or 2 targets only to crash once so it's not a frequent crash for me.

This also lead me to believe it's a timing error maybe some weird order in the plane, missiles and targets update / destruction order?

I will try to do more simple scenarios that my big missions so I can do fast testing and maybe achieve a track file easy to replay.

But what if I reproduce a quick multiplayer crash, would you need the server and client track files? I am not sure how to replay tracks outputted in multiplayer.

Thanks
