MiG-23 videos

This thread is for real life videos of the MiG-23.

I'll start with this incredible cockpit video from a former NVA Major flying a MiG-23ML of Jagdgeschwader 9 (Fighter Wing 9) of the East German Air Force from September 1990:

MiG-23BN of the Luftstreitkrafte der NVA. The ground pounding Floggers are my preference, but I'll take any Flogger.

Soviet service

Czechslovak MiG-23BN operating on a road

Czech Air Force MiG-23ML.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

^ I was just coming to post that one 😃 Some of the stuff he says is nonsense, but who cares? It's still the best view of a MiG-23 you'll ever get. I sat in one in Kyiv, but the thing was in rough condition, to say the least =( This one's so... pretty. And it's in Texas very near where I live. If I get a chance to go out there, I'll share with you all 😃

AFAIK, Cuba had the version with a downgraded radar, though. USSR made two versions of both the MF and ML, and the one sold to Cuba was the "monkey model" one. We're getting the Soviet version with full radar and IFF capabilities.

That's wrong, Cuba always had the same MIG-23 version of the former East Germany (several MIG-23 in Angola were brought from the USSR directly to Angola, other came from Cuba), even the MIG-29A in Cuba, is not the export version of Iraq and Serbia.

And still USSR operated 9.12, Warsaw pact - somewhat worsened 9.12A and non-warsaw pact - even more worsened 9.12B

AFAIK the only "worsening" for WARPAC and Cuba is transponder.

Even N001 and N009 are not all-seeing, not to mention N003. Independent target search and attack is not an easy task depending on superposition of fighter and target, correspondence of selected radar mode, and terrain below. DCS radar feature is simplified, IRL you never have a guarantee to see someone in range even on 4+ gens.

Guys, this is a video thread, not a general MiG-23 discussion thread.

Hello.

Yesterday I spoke with one person on your team. His name is Elmo.

This person does not understand what a Soviet pilot's "flight book" .

I am a real pilot who flew this type. In addition, I am a tester of the ED team. And I'm also a test pilot both in real life and in the preparation of virtual models.

I can help you.

Probably the person with whom I spoke does not understand with whom he is talking. Because he refused to give me permission to test the MiG-23. If you have more competent people, please contact me.

I would tend to agree on ground attack Floggers being a better subject. MiG-23BN, or late MiG-27K would be a remarkable addition to the DCS world.

I want MiG-27K for Kaira sight, and generally being the most capable (but still 80s kosher!) red striker possible. But... the idea of watching my plane fall apart around me as I keep GSh-6-30 brrrrt button down is certainly interesting as well! 😄

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

Hi guys,

I have found this video, this is a training video from the Romanian Air Forces on how to deal with technical problems in flight, unfortunately it is not CC'd or dubbed in other languages. But they explain a lot of neat stuff. The first one starting at the 3:00 minute is the loss of hydraulic pressure in the main system.

Some info on radar ranges at 1:29:00   120km ideal, 60-80km most of time for search.

those are pretty respectable ranges all things considered, and performancewise the R23 can readily compete with the AIM7. this is going to be a great addition
