AG Radar Terrain Avoidance (TA) mode

The dev of TA is finished.

 

TA mode defines a clean zone with 200 feet depth.
Pilot can set the margin between jf-17 and ceil of clean zone.
- Terrain elevation above the ceil of clean zone will be rendered in red,
- Yellow if terrain altitude within clean zone.
- Nothing will be rendered, if terrain elevation lower than floor of clean zone.
All the area behind obstacle that LOS from radar is unavailable will also be rendered in red.

I interpreted uboats post as that the jeff is getting a terrain avoidence mode for the radar, like in the viggen. I didn't know this is an automatic terrain following mode the jeff is flying automatic? Did i misread something? 🤔

Will you guys be finishing up the AGR in the near future then?

 

I do have a list of bugs and of things to tweak that I've noticed:

- S2 left to enter EXP modes does not render anything on the AGR screen.

- TDC slew sensitivity in EXP modes is much higher than in MAP modes

- TDC designation in EXP is misaligned; it designates as if it were still in the full scale MAP image instead of the EXP'd zone

- GMTI and SEA1/2 modes drop lock very easily; most likely I assume A/A Radar notch speed gates are just copied over to A/G Radar.

- EXP/DBS image is very grainy/low res compared to F-18, despite having a more modern and similar sized radar. (might be accurate? idk)

- No SPI on AGR. Unsure if real one has a SPI on AGR. TDC is used as SPI stand-in but slight, accidental movements when TDC is depressed makes it no longer move with designated point; makes it hard to make out designated point in MAP/EXP.

Originally i was not interested in the JF-17 but your YT videos before EA release showed that you put your heart and soul in this module and your sustained work to finish and improve this module is a delight to see! First of all the yf17 is my favorite fighter very well done.

The TA radar ground mode how its works, and what are the right set up its is very slow to show the red and jellow terrain. Explain me plesse.

Here is how I interpret it using the information in the first post, but please correct me if I’m wrong. 
 

Anything clear is is an area you can fly through and have more then 200 feet clearance between you and the ground. Yellow is anywhere where if you fly straight and level you will be within 200 feet or less of the ground. And the red is anywhere above that that you may crash into if you continue to fly straight and level.

 

The margin set by pilot referenced in the first post is just the altitude you choose to fly at, there is nothing in the MFDs that you can adjust other then azimuth, gain and freezing the picture as far as I can tell. 

 

I think you can also relate the colors to the general display colors, yellow being an “advisory” or “caution” color and red being for “danger.” 
 

please correct me if that’s wrong Uboats, but that’s what I can tell atleast.

 

if the scan time is too slow, you can reduce azimuth from 30 to 15 degrees and you will get half the response time for less side coverage. But also remember that it is stabilized and looks straight ahead expecting you to fly straight and level, so diving or climbing won’t help you much or work quite so well. When you pitch more then thirty degrees it’ll always be looking +/- 30 degrees from your nose trying to look level and not boresight, so the more level you fly the better it works. I also find in my time it doesn’t do much if flying at Viggen height, once your below 200 feet pretty much everything is red and it won’t really help you.

There is a "CNTRL" option OSB button, there you can set the "margin set by pilot"

 

Attached is a quick and dirty picture how i understand TA mode:

- the 200ft "clean zone" is always there(from your plane downwards ) -> if the radar detects ground in that zone it will be rendered yellow on the radar -> if the radar detects that the ground extends above that 200ft zone it will be rendered red

- with the "margin set by pilot" you can "push" that "200ft zone" down between 0ft - 300ft for extra safety margin -> if you want for example atleast 50ft clearance to the ground you set the pilot margin to 50ft

 

I hope the quick paint picture is more understandable as my words above, also i attached a YT video(should be 1440p after YT processing) showing the "pilot margin" setting, you can see that setting also in the OP post by uboats. I also used 2 pictures from uboats for my picture, if there is a problem with that by uboats/Deka or if my understanding/explanation of the TA mode is wrong please let me know and i will remove it. Also i had no time to check the TA mode, i literally only spend 2 minutes in DCS to test it, short of time right now. 😞
