Two F-15C questions

Recommended Posts

1) Where is the air-brake light in the cockpit? I've looked everywhere but can't find it. I always end up flying around with the brake out because I forget to retract it. :music_whistling:

2) Is there a way to find out if someone has locked on to you?

3) Are there any tips and tricks that you could give me when flying the F-15? Something that the in game tutorials didn't tell me. :smilewink:

Thanks guys, cheerz!

1) Upper corner of your warning light panel ... you can just BARELY see a few pixels of it.

2) Your RWR should give you the correct indication.

3) Your corner speed is about 425Kts. Live the corner speed, for starters. The F-15 is an energy fighter ... energy fighting is a bit harder than angle fighting. There's a whole book written about it, so I won't go into it :D

Yup I kinda added no. 3 at the last second. :)

I read the TEWS/RWR section in the LOFC manual but I still don't know how to find out if I'm being locked up by someone (if I'm flying the F-15). And another thing: is there a way to make the missile launch warning (in the F-15) sound at more regular intervals? I love the Russian missile launch warning because it sounds at very short intervals so you know exactly when the missile has lost its lock on you (plus you get the nice constant beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep when you've been locked up), but in the F-15 you've gotta wait ages to find out if you've lost the lock or not.

Well not always, I'm sure I recall reading on a Forum that sometimes if you bank very hard, it means the antenna of the Russian RWR cant see the missile anymore, and you might still be locked up.

sorry for OT: can i change camera angles with Fx buttons while viewing a track ?

Record your track as normal and save it with some suitable name.

Go into the Mission Editor, choose OPEN, then bottom right of screen you will see TYPE OF FILE, choose TRACK FILES. Navigate your folder structure to wherever you saved your track and choose your track by clicking on it, click on MAP, then (instead of pressing FLY) you choose (top left of screen) FLIGHT, VIDEO EDIT.

Now you can go through the track, pressing S to pause / unpause the track whenver you want to make a change. While it is paused you can change camera views with the usual F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 etc view keys, zoom in / out, etc, F6 weapon view, F7 vehicles, F8 target view, F9 ships, F11 for airfield view - whatever you want. Shift F10 to switch labels on / off etc.

If you use F2 external view, press Y twice to get rid of the status bar at the bottom of the screen before unpausing.

You can use CNTRL/A to speed up the running through the replay if you have a long bit you don't wish to edit, ALT/A to slow down and SHIFT/A to return to normal speed.

Be warned, occasionally changing views can change how the track replays and alter the outcome of the track i.e. a missile might miss when it hit previously! I think things like the use of helmet mounted sight is one of the problem areas, also the padlock command.

Once you finish, save it with a different name to preserve your original track. Always best to delete / overwrite nothing till you are 110% sure you dont need it again ;)

Obviously this all assumes you are starting the track in the Mission Editor. Starting one from the Training Menu does not allow you any sort of control.

Sometimes a tracks views are locked, use a utility to unlock them.

The original utility was called LOTU, then came LOTU v2.0, then LOME, then LOME v1.1 which is the latest version, link below...

LOME v1.1 Link

Hope this helps.....

Agreed.

Except on "very hard" : 30° isn't a hard bank IMO :smartass:

The F-15 TEWS has the same limitation. Alexrey, if you hear a solid tone from the TEWS, you are locked. If you are only in the scan cone of another plane, you will hear a lazy "chirp". (one for each scan cone you are inside) If you are launched on, you hear an attention getting " beep beep beep...".

Opinions don't count. It's a limitation of the Berioza system.

??? Wasn't he was saying that, in his opinion, 30 degrees does not constitute a hard bank? The opinion had nothing to do with the limitations of the Berioza.

I get the chirp sounds and the beep beep beep launch sounds, but I've never hear the solid lock tone before. :noexpression: I only get a solid lock tone when flying the Russian planes.

Hello Ironhand.

You're right here :)

Yes exactly. It may not be a hard bank, but it is a limitation of the system. I'm not busting his chops about it.

Hello konkussion.

I'm perfectly aware of the SPO-15 limitations, thank you :)

English isn't my mother tongue, an I can't get what means your last sentence ? :book:
