Yeah! Just saw that when looking again 😃

I have heard talk about the one setting at the bottom, Virtual Reality Pre-rendered Frames. Some say it increases smoothness when the value is set higher than 1? Any experience?

yeah i used to do that too... smooth is ... not a helpful or measurable interpretation to use.  I under stand the premise, but my version of it is not the same as yours... so i tend to stay away from jerky/smooth ... I can't see a measurable difference in frame time and so I turned it off (but that was before i did any serious measurement).  I might try retesting with it again at some point just to see

Hi @speed-of-heat…. noticed in the opening post you have the motion smoothing enabled in one screen in SteamVR settings, and disabled in another? I’m runnnig latest beta versions of WMR and SteamVR.

motion smoothing is enabled for playing and disabled for testing. you can't get accurate measurement of effects with motion smoothing in place

Hey @speed-of-heat !

Haven't done any testing for a few weeks now and thought I'd run your performance.trk this morning following the Windows and Nvidia updates.

Unfortunately it no longer behaves the same way for me. Does the initial roll then instead of NOE flying it heads skywards and eventually dives into the dirt !

I've had this happen before to me with my own tracks across the initial 2.7 upgrade so I'm assuming some update since then has sent this out of whack.

Or is it just me  ?

(BTW, sorry to hear about your throttle - fixable or RIP?)

@ShaunX Yep the track got broken,  though on mine i turn into a lawn dart, as soon as i get another throttle i will re-do it.  The throttle PCB is of to Canada for repair... and  I have TM3 on order.

Thanks for asking 🙂

This has been a huge help in setting up my G2, so thank you very much Speed of Heat!
I’ve followed all the steps and have now got playable FPS/frametimes (is that the right word?) I just have a couple of questions regarding 2 of the mods if you don’t mind...

1) The flat shadow removal mod:

The link to that one doesn’t seem to work anymore (the one I the mod thread) but luckily I downloaded last year on a different computer. I’ve tried to install it via Ovgme but it’s saying it’s going to overwrite something in a folder from the VR shader mod (clear water one) is this normal? it didn’t say this when I was using both mods on my old computer and everything ran fine together. (I didn’t install it just in case it screwed up the shader mod.)

2) The VR shader mod:

The only downside for me with this fantastic mod is how it makes the text on the mfds look. I was loving the crispness of the text with the G2, so was wondering if there’s something within the mod I could enable/disable that would bring back the crisp text? I only ask because I noticed in the read me file a list of things that were enabled and wondered if one of those was responsible?

Thanks again for such a great guide, my G2 has been in its box under my desk for 6 months but now I finally have a 3090 (it came with an Alienware R10 stuck to it though) I’m loving it. But I wouldn’t have without this guide, I’d still be bashing my head against the wall.

very odd i just checked the link it seems to be working (both of them ) the second one should take you to here Flat shadows removal mod - DCS Mods - ED Forums (eagle.ru) there are two file that might try and overwrite something firevehicle.lua and NVD_HDR.fx i just add a double -- to each file name to avoid the issue, the only one you really need is shadow.hlsl.

I genuinely dont see that particular issue; the text looks perfectly clear to me ?

Sorry I meant the link to google drive in mustang’s thread. Says the file isn’t there anymore.
thanks for the help I’ll give that a go.

The mfd txt is kinda hard to describe but it’s like black vertical lines down through the text, oh dear I’m not doing a very good job of describing it. Anyway not to worry it’s not a big deal, just thought I’d ask.

thanks again 👍

FSR is looking favourable, in your testing does the openvr_mod output text file give the expected resolution as defined in STEAMVR.

So can the FSR be used in conjunction with Kegetys shaders and ReshadeVR?

Also want to add my thanks to you for your hard work on this thread.  It is always my "go to" when I get the urge to tweak my G2.

i use it conjunction with Kegtys as i mention in my notes; i do not use reshade as it has performance detriment and increases the shimmer again, as i also mention in my notes.

Thanks for all the work Speed-of-heat, great write up and I’ve read all 17 pages here, twice.

question: should a RTX 3080ti in an AMD R9 5900x with 32GB DDR4 and NVMe have similar results with a G2? (New rig is a Corsair Vengeance gaming machine)

I’m coming from a 1080ti on an i7-9700K  and 32GB DDR4 and NVMe and find after 3 solid days of tweaking I am only seeing marginally better results.

I realize that’s a subjective thing to say and this thread is all about data results, but what’s odd is I find on my old rig DCS is satisfying to me with frame times in the mid to high teens but the new rig needs to be in the low teens or less to my satisfaction. And seems like there are moments where the game just stutters completely on the new rig. I know I shouldn’t let perfect be the enemy of good but I’m very disappointed at the results after following this guide as closely as I can (and also the VR4DCS guide). The only way I can get the new rig playing well is simply by reproducing the settings I have on my old rig, essentially dumbing down the settings for a PD of 1.0 and WMR resolution to 74%. This is my last attempt before I return this computer to Corsair and wait until DCS is optimized better for VR.

thanks for any help in advance!

i honestly cant say because im not really familiar with the AMD side of the house, but something to check is if you are actually testing with motion smoothing off, or you wont notice any difference ... play with it on test with it off..

Thanks Speed, I have been testing with it off (and have tried it on), haven’t seen much difference. Guess I’ll be giving up and sending this machine back. It was my first AMD trial, not sure if that’s the problem… I figured it should be stellar performance with its single core processing speeds, but who knows what the problem is with so many variables at work.

Thanks for taking the time to compile and post this info, I know the effort wasn't trivial.  I'm running the RTX 2070 Super, and plan on trying out your recommendations.  I'll make an attempt to post back here after my experiments.

hi

did you manage to find a balanced configuration for your 2070 super?

i have the same gpu but i have ghosting issues. the only way to get rid of it is to lower everything to reach the 90 fps. with a gpu frametime below 10ms. but the game is so ugly......

i would be very happy even with à Steady 45fps but no ghosting at all.

i expect to change my gpu but rtx30...... are so expensive now...

thx

any advices are welcome

  • speed-of-heat changed the title to My 3090 Settings for my G2 (2.7.3)

@speed-of-heat I think I saw you mention somewhere that Mustangs "Flat Shadows Removal" MOD is deprecated, and also it's struck out in your OP now. I can't find a ref as to why it's deprecated, is it due to changes in base 2.7?
