I could do , and might if i get a chance, but the effect of mirrors is pretty observable ... even just using an FPS counter

@ShaunXare you still running 2.7.6 then? as the Flatshadow mod doesnt work with 2.7.7

Yep. My DCS M.2 drive has heaps of space so I'm been meaning to try creating a parallel OB installation from a copy of my existing one. This seems like a good time to branch as I really love my performance in 2.7.6 so 2.7.7 will go onto the new copy first. Just getting my ducks in a row, OvGME folder configs etc and some advice from Skatezilla first.

Hope to have a seperate 2.7.7 build later today.

Ok, that went a lot quicker than I expected and I now have seperate 2.7.6 and 2.7.7 installs. I've used dcs_variant.txt to give each their own saved games folders.

(For anyone trying this note that you need to introduce the dcs.exe version in the new copy to Steam and set as a VR game in order to be able to set app specific options in SteamVR.)

Simplex 2.0 will not compile for me in 2.7.7, but 2.1 is fine.

I created a merged Simplex 2.1 / Lefuneste mod hybrid to test. Didn't seem to improve it. DCS_Shaders_-_SIMPLEX_2.7.0.4625_v2.1 - Lefuneste HYBRID.zip

2.7.6 vs 2.7.7 FPSVR test results for comparison..

image.png

So I'm losing about 8 FPS between the 2.7.6 and 2.7.7 baselines with no shader mods, and can at best improve that by about 8.5 FPS with a shader mod version, so pretty much just back to 2.7.6 with no mods!

Unless I'm missing something, I don't think your clear water mod gives clear water anymore ?

Luckily FSR still works!

im not judging but something doesnt quiet add up a gpu frame time of 11.46 with a FPS of 72 and a higher frame rate with a higher frame rate with simplex doesnt quiet add up...

But clear water is definitely working,

Screen_211025_173508.png

as you can see...

that said overall  simplex looks to be the clear choice  (no pun intended)

Maybe I screwed up when swapping the mods. I thought I even cleared fo and metashaders2 between each change. Ah well, it's been a long day 😂

yep, understand.

check the csv file for very high frametime spikes would be my suggestion

It seems I screwed something up yesterday. I ran a slow repair this morning and sure enough, the waters cleared !

Also, Clear Water 2.7.7 is now the most performant in my testing

..from 72.01, and if I reduce water to medium, I can't tell the difference.. and..

I should let @ShaunX for himself but i suspect the only thing he changed was dropping water to medium

This was with 2.7.7 clear water and I turned water down to medium..

..you understand that we're running these tests with the G2 on its stand and so view is always centered and running the tests using the mirror ?

Have you also applied ALL of the hygene steps described in the first post. They do make a measurable difference.

..I should also state SteamVR SS generic 100% and DCS specific at 80%, DCS PD = 1

@ShaunX if you are using medium water, you might be better off with performance on the core Shaders mod, as my version of it for CW gimps the performance to allow clear water, which you wont see at medium?

Good point, but which is the "core" shader these days ? I didn't find lefuneste's particularly performant, and it was much improved when you incorporated it into Clear Water, and I'm finding that better than Simplex 2.1 now.

I'll probably just alternate anyway. Only really care about clear water if I'm poodling around the Marianas bombing golf courses in a Huey.

Incidently..

image.png   !!

good to know it still works well.

@ShaunX it might not make much difference, @Taz1004seemed to say that a lot of the GBuffer optimisations were no longer present ! nice frame times i may look to do the same on mine

..now that I've finished screwing around with performance settings and actually done some VR flying in 4.7.7 I have to say, the lighting changes are pretty stunning. I always felt Nevada and the Gulf's buildings looked a little pastelly and washed out. Not anymore. The haze effect looks far more realistic and the cloud reflections on the sea have been seriously fixed. Beautiful with a low sun. Gotta love this game 😍

I made same tests than you did, with helmet on desktop, mirrors ON (can't change to off on replay).

With FSR + SOH water clear shaders and exact same settings than you, I only have 62 fps.

I have the reverb G1 and I let steam SS to 100% and PD to 1.

It makes such a difference, I can't admit it only comes from 6900XT vs 3090.

Mirrors will make a big difference. I don't underatnd why they're on for you, they're definately off when I replay it and I believe S-O-H already confirmed they're off for him. I assume you definately have them off in options/gameplay ? Do they come on by default when you do an instant action ?

Aren't there known issues with the 6900XT and the reverb..or is that just the G2 ?

Would you mind explaining the test you are running and how to get to the end results? I would like to jump on board and run exactly the same tests, so I get a clear understanding of where I am at with my rig in relation to yours. I ran my own tests before based on something else and then it is hard to compare. I have pretty decent hardware specifically bought for DCS and ran through a lot of guides, but have the feeling something is seriously off when I see your stats.

Thanks a bunch,
