My 3090 Settings for my G2 (2.7.11)

I haven’t done that. I don’t overclock my cpu and I’m happy with the intel thermal velocity boost it kicks in when I start DCS/SteamVR and runs at 4.9-5.0GHz automatically as I have my system setting DCS profile at High Performance mode. I’m alittle scared messing with that Reg stuff.

Right but pretend Im a complete moron and gimme a step by step.  I can add an actual reg key file but this requires CREATING the entry.

sorry; i feel your pain, but, there are a number of step by step guides out there on how to make registry changes (How to Add, Change, & Delete Registry Keys & Values (lifewire.com), that's not he purpose of this thread.

I see that @tomeye has provided a regfile, double clicking that on your desk top should work , your mileage may vary, i'm not offering legal advice... etc...

@speed-of-heat Thanks for all this hard work!  My HP G2 is arriving on Wednesday.  I've been tuning my system (I7-7700, 1080Ti) to run above 90fps based on your suggestions.  I can get 90fps (2D) on the runway at Beirut on the Syria map and easily 120fps in other spots.  Not bad for oldish hardware.

Hi @Glideglad its been working for you in 2d,in VR you get between 1/3rd to 1/2 the performance that you would see in 2d... though a lot depends on the total number of pixels you are driving in 2d... so you might need to drop some settings to get consistently below 22ms frametime; the most likely would be the default resolution to 100 and the CRM for DCS to be something like 50% on the G2 and start from there!

I'm afraid your in for a bit of a shock, I don't hit 90fps with the G2 putting out "acceptable" graphics with an i9-9900k at 5gz and an RTX3090.. i'm close at 85+ with low frame times but I'll take my flat screens over it any time.. Maybe next year something will come out that can be run on a high end system that matches 2D, but it's not here yet..

Yep, I can crank everything up in 2d and get 40ish fps at 4k, but at 1080p i can make it fly.  Right now 2d is awesome, so if VR doesn't quite thrill me I can always go back.  Cheers!

Thanks for the heads up.  I have my eyes on the 3080Ti for next spring, and there is that other sim that is looking so good now that may be playable on my 1080Ti.  🙂

Hope it goes well, if you're anything like me then you'll have a hard to impossible time going back to 2D from VR I'm sorry to say...

so bear in mind that on the G2 at physically native resolution you are driving 1.5 4k displays ... and at 100% in steam you will be 150% of physical resolution....

Okay, I turned 60 this year, so I better not wait.  I found a nice 3080Ti in a custom build from newegg.  Should be lighting the fires by Christmas. Vroom VRoom

HOW EXACTLY to do this please.

To ensure your DCS.exe, vrserver.exe and vrcompositor.exe are working most efficiently with your CPU set their priority to High, you can do this manually, or via a script I do it via the registry, add the following keys to the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\DCS.exe\PerfOptions

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

Does this still do anything though with from windows 7 and newer ?
I would be very surprised if it even made 1 fps difference.

This registry setting configures windows to set CPU high priority for the specific processes. In modern computing CPU uses constant switching between processes, so this setting guides your CPU to prioritize on these processes. Most likely this will save you from shuttering due to CPU switching momentarily to other processes.

Hey SoH, is there any benefit switching performance mode and Quality in WMR ?
I went in a Cold War PvP server last night and I have never seen my G2/VR perf drop under 40fps. I’m usually locked at 45fps in most cases. I have always had my WMR setting on quality. I feel like the clouds is the VR killer.

@Burtso i dont see a perf improvement but it seems to crisp up the edges running in performance mode

particularly in cockpit instruments

Be careful here, Im pretty sure doing this TANKED my VR performance.

Look, for me it brings performance improvements; but if it doesnt just get rid of the key... right click delete and it will not impact one way or the other after the next boot.

To be clear, I was just explaining what "tanked" means. I have no opinion on the effects of task priority.

If I had to make an assumption, I would suggest that the benefits (or the lack of) depend on the kind of CPU and OS that is used (and perhaps some performance settings). If we learned one thing with windows 11 is, that the scheduler does not work the same with every CPU.
