Good morning , Hey speed you mine sharing your overclock settings for your 3090 running at 2010mhz if you have the time.
core clock

memory clock

at stock my 3090 is running @ 1920 which is the same my 2080 Super was running @

cc- 50 and mc - 350

I would like to see if there’s a difference with slightly higher speeds. I’m not that experience with overclocking.

Thanks and have a great day

I'm sure it's a fantastic visual experience but I really feel put off with VR with all the tweaking that seems to be needed. Is there any way to rent a G2 headset? I'd be happy to pay just to try it out.

Now: Water-cooled Ryzen 5800X + 32GB DDR 4 3200 RAM + EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra 24 GB + Reverb G2 + Add-on PCI-e 3.1 card + 2x1TB Corsair M.2 4900/4200 + TM HOTAS Warthog + TM TPR Pendular Rudder  'Engaged Defensive' YouTube Channel

Bear in mind, it is exactly that, tweaking. With your hardware, you will get a good experience straight out of the box, more or less.  All you need to do is sort out WMR settings (easy) and SteamVR (not difficult) use SoH settings in DCS as a start and take it from there.  The rest is just all icing on the cake.

I have to agree with @imacken i am literally using this a way of recording everything i know how to do to get minute improvements in frame times, and also because i see people not doing basic hygiene on some really high end systems as a way of answering common problems.  On your @C3PO hardware you should have no problems getting a good experience out of the can... unless your basic machine hygiene is poor...

I have to agree with the above.  DCS is currently CPU overclock dependent.  If you follow Speed of Heats base line and overclock to around 5.0Ghz, you have no reason to no expect a good result. @speed-of-heat perhaps your 2D benchmarks on the same config would be of relevance to people buying a headset as a reference.

@shu77  I will have a think about that, i assume you mean a frame rate based upon the same settings i use in VR or similar, it starts to get complex because of LCD panel size... e.g. what i get on my 2560x1440 at 144hz with g-sync  is a likely a different experience from someone running on a 60hz panel at 1920 x 1080... i will have a think and a play and see if i can get meaningful data

Yeah.  Your work helped me quite a lot.  the only thing I cant speak to is the difference to whether I had overclocked as the first step, so my advice currently is overclock and follow your settings, then look at Big Newys and then VR4DCS.com as a tertiary but it would be interesting given you have the better GPU to know your FPS at 1440p, which is the highest I can go as a comparison with my rig

Dear @speed-of-heatgood morning Sir

I already thanked you here in the past for the great quality content you brought to DCS community but we/I need again your support to nail the VR 2.7 performance again 🙂

I do have same specs as you ( G2 , 9900K, 32 gb ram , NVME etc ) , using same settings as per your 1st post etc etc ....now now now....with the ne2 2.7 I am having a lost of stutters caused by an increase in timeframes which is now at abut 20-24 ms causing stuttering wheh observing the terrain from the above.

What are your findings with the 2.7?

p.s. : do you use discord?

I'd be interested in folks experience with 2.7... I'm seeing much higher CPU frame times online specifically.

Appreciate any insights you might gain.

My VERY general experience was that in 2.5 I was seeing anywhere between 45-75 fps (usually like on the ground/up high) on most maps situations online/offline usually above 45 for most of it.

Currently (online) I'm usually below 45FPS sitting on the ground online, and then usually locked at 45 or occasionally now into the 50's. And it seems like CPU frametimes are the culprit. I did a double take to check that that wierd winwing export thing hadn't cropped up again in my exports since this caused very similar issues.

Offline its a bit better 50's-60's on various free flight missions, but I feel like I lost at least 10-15fps offline, and really changing "clouds" doesn't seem to matter, so I'm not sure if its related.

I did notice my SteamSS had crept up to like 2700x, so I cranked it back to 2100x, and that got me a few frames back. But still its not great.

I just checked the standarad TF-51 over tibilisi mission, and there I'm getting sub 10ms frame times, which is as I recall it, but mid teen GPU times(14-16. So something is eating frames for sure as it was 10-12ms before, cloud settings from ultra-med make no difference.

UPDATE:

Heads up guys. Not sure if its your issue but I was on the "latest"  drivers

466.11 bad (50% higher gpu frame time) 15ms gpu frame times

461.72 (old feb driver) works fine, back to high fps... 9-10ms frame times...

Had some time flying tonight and except for low cloud layer dancing a bit (not massively) it was wow 🙂   Also seems much smoother.  Tried a test mission I have on Syria and I rarely dropped below 45fps so was much smoother than before for me (I was regularly dropping to 30-35).  Now they did improve performance of Syria in this release but flew PG too on MP session and was really silky too.  Ground texture/relief and sharpness also much better.  Lighting is tons better too on cockpit and ground.

I have a very scientific method of checking my performance after any updates, whether driver or game updates.

I will mention I use my Reverb G2 with Motion Smoothing on and forced at 45 fps.

My method - if it is smooth and no stutters and looks good,  I am good. No fps counter on either, no measuring anything.

Purely scientific.

at the moment I'm pretty much grounded, i find the new clouds very ... uncomfortable 🤮... my cpu perf issue was connected with I think the BIOS i flashed for Rebar, i rolled that back and all was good.

I haven't spent too much time "flying" more testing and trying to get performance back, so quick spins around to check tweaks. But I did put some AAR time in last night on a practice mission I created ages ago, and added "new" clouds. Well having them break dancing in my peripheral vision was not the most confoirtable of experiences. So, gave up after 15 mins and went and flew the first mission of Pontus, which is dusk/night 🙂 They really need fixing ASAP

As an aside using your modded Kegetys and flatshadow removal mod (mustang) I seem to be where I was at perf wise pre 2.7. So just the clouds to sort now 👍

That's really bad news mate. I have to say the shimmering is very slight for me but from many other posts it seems it must vary in degree across different rigs.

I guess you can always set them to "Nothing" in ME, or perhaps try one of the lower variations ? Hopefully ED will address as one of their stated top priorities.

So I think I just have to be very careful with mission selection those with nice cirrostratus and not so much cumulonimbus ... it tried the various settings of cloud when present they all produce the same effect eventually... maybe it’s like VR and I just have to get “used” to it again.

To be fair to ED they have said both publicly and privately it’s a top priority for them to fix ... so I have confidence they will!

I have to say overall I’m very impressed though on what testing I have been able to do on a like for like performance.

Yeah, its funny, I've never really had any discomfort in VR in any sim, but those new "jittery" clouds are a bit wierd/nauseating for me.

I have a ? regarding the paging file:

[QUOTE]

  • I have my page file set to a 32968 to 65536 this is on my operating system disk (NVME) I have a separate SSD for DCS, this changed from fixed page file as DCS when using HIGH for textures, needs an absolute ton of RAM to decompress the textures

I have set the recommended values for the SYS drive to 32968 (initial size) and 65536 (maximum size). I also have a separate SSD for DCS where the paging file is set to [none], is this correct or should I allocate paging (and what values) there as well?

Hi @skypirate,

great question, you only need one paging file, it’s a system wide resource.  Ideally it is a on a separate disk from DCS, and ideally using a separate bus resource on the motherboard to maximise performance. In some ways it’s a bit like ram if you are using multiple ssd’s make sure they are on separate scsi channels, m.2 drives should be already on a separate motherboard resource, to ssds. You might have to do so manual digging to work out what resources are shared.

but to answer your direct question, no you don’t need one on the dcs disk, indeed it’s preferable for performance that you don’t. So your current config is correct.
