My 3090 Settings for my G2 (2.7.11)

Question please

1. in the cockpit f18 I’m seeing white circle lines kinda like the controller lines and if I move way up to my monitor it goes away. How to get rid of the lines.

2. In the Tomcat I’m sitting way to close to the hud... is that a camera position thing. I have the recenter and quick zoom binded

how to I slide back alittle?

3. Do you have any through the lenses images for the G2. It just seems that I’m looking at it with scotch tape on the lense. Still trying to find crispness. My fsp is good and actually smooth.

4. On the steamvr graph I notice the color goes orange a red sometimes ... I’m I shooting for green on the graph.

Thanks for you post again... I think Im getting close to enjoying the G2 with DCS. I was alittle worried at first but I’m starting to navigate through steamvr beta alittle better now. Just finding the time is my main issue.

do you mean at the edge of your peripheral vision, you might need to adjust the mask size?

I dont have that problem ? you are quite close to the screen in the 14, i constantly feel like im looking under the canopy bow, thats how its meant to be, there are controls from moving back and forth , i honestly cant remember them; i usually fix similar problems  by editing snapviews.lua in your saved games directory and making sure the default VR view is the same as the default view for a particular aircraft.

buy fpsVR its worth the money, you are aiming for NO RED/Purple and as little orange/yellow as you can... esesntially you want both the CPU and GPU frametimes to be under 11ms as much as you can (which gives you 90fps) , or consistently never going above 22ms (which gives you 45)

Haha yes I did remove the blue film. I also bought fpsvr but didn’t  like that it was in the middle of my view so I need to adjust that also to the left I’m sure that’s an option I didnt give it to much time with it but I will.

thanks for your reply and advice.

in terms of blury vision, you might spend some time with the straps i can get a quite different experience if its not sitting on my head correctly ... the big gap needs to be over the big bump at the back of your head "the occiput" if its not it will go all to hell

This. I noticed 2 things. First, the sweet spot for me is with the lenses sitting a little bit lower than where I intuitively place it. It feels like the bottom of the headset is sitting too low on my cheeks, but it puts the sweet spot right in the middle. The second is experiment with just pushing the headset against your face and see how the sharpness changes. I found it has to be snug to get to the sweetspot.

All that said, these Fresnel optics are a compromise and it will always be blurry away from the center sweet spot. But to get the best experience you want to make sure the sweetspot is right in the middle and sharp.

when its on it has a massively increased frametime for me, YMMV, test it and see what works for you

So weird question.

Plugged in the 3090. All is well, but for whatever reason I'm stuck locked at 45fps offline, where my previous settings would get me 90 or just below FPS wise.

FPSvr is telling me my frame time are like 6-8ms both for cpu and gpu....

I even tried to disable motion smoothing in steamVR, but no change there at all.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Sounds like Motion Smoothing is on.

Check  in your headset in WMR, find the graphic for WMR for Steam VR and check your settings in there.

my guess is maybe motion vector is still enabled in steam.vrsettings?

There are four places you can forces you can force it on

- steam.vrsettings

- OpenVR Settings in the GUI

- Steam VR Settings (Forced)

- Steam VR Settings - > DCS forced

you might also be able to force it on via OPen XR developer settings as well ...

This is laughably terrible. Literally EVERYTHING is locked at 45fps even IL2 which I was running at 90fps before. With like 5-8ms frame times, and the GPU at most sitting at 50%.... I did update to the latest nvida driver after I put the card in, but I'm just at a loss as to why its locked.

I've disabled motion smoothing in several places (Steam VR home), DCS,

that means its 45 per eye, or LCD panel. so you're getting 90. Do you see 90 in the UI menu? if so you're good but then again this is map defendant.

I'm at 3168 x 3092 motion on, and this latest Steam VR is fubared; I'm crashing al ot.

Thanks @speed-of-heat!

I'll try this.

I have just two things to say :

  1. I found out (and tested as objectively as possible) that using a lower PD in DCS and a higher multiplier in SteamVR leads to better performance ; that means that 150% SS in Steam VR and 0.7 PD in DCS (resulting in 1.05 times more pixels than the actual resolution) saves me about 2ms in frametime, compared to 100% SS x 1.0PD.
  2. hanger vs a hangar😉

Sorry to tell you, but your calcs are wrong, and that is why you are seeing an improvement.  SteamVR SS factor is on total pixels, whereas DCS PD is on pixel density per axis.

So, 0.7 PD is actually equivalent to SteamVR SS of 0.7*0.7, i.e. 0.49.  Then, if you apply this to your 1.5 (150%), then your oveall figure is 0.735, not 1.05.

An example. Say you had 1000x1000 native, that would be 700x700 with a PD of 0.7 applied, i.e. 490,000 compared to your original 1,000,000. Then apply your SteamVR factor of 150% (1.5), then you have 490,000*1.5, i.e. 735,000, compared to your native 1,000,000. Not 1.5*0.7, which is where you are getting your 1.05 from.

Please see my post above. It is not the correct calculation. That's why you are seeing 'improved' frame times.

Thanks Imacken.  I am not using these exact numbers, just using SS on steamVR and <1 PD in DCS.  Came out with a combination that works well for me (qualitiy/fluidity)

Man I knew I should of paid the 500$ more! But I’m getting good results with the 3080, you’re 3090 should have no issues with 150%. And manually  set you’re fans to 88%. Temps should stay around 60c.

Literally never touched or seen this file before, so if you are, you are doing very different from what I have recommend...

Yeah, I just found it doing web searches haven't touched it.

Every GUI option I have set disables motion smoothing. I mean, the DCS menu screen is locked at 45FPS, Its always been 90 for the last X years I've used VR regardless of motion smoothing on or off. The frame times suggest I should be pulling 90, yet every tool, DCS, FPSVR other in game tools in other games are saying its locked at 45.

that means its 45 per eye, or LCD panel. so you're getting 90. Do you see 90 in the UI menu? if so you're good but then again this is map defendant.

I'm at 3168 x 3092 motion on, and this latest Steam VR is fubared; I'm crashing al ot.

Yeah, no its locked at 45 per every tool I have. And the frame times which are always under 11ms would indicate it should be pulling 90 without any smooting.

The only thing I did, was pull the 2080ti, pop in the 3090, and update to the latest nvidia driver. IDK, I might try rolling it back, or reinstalling steamVR at this point, because even stupidly simple apps like the steamVR "Room" its locked at 45.
