TWS Auto azimuth centroid

Hey guys,

So I have a question, in the Tomcat, if there are multiple TWS tracks, the system automatically sets the radar azimuth to keep the most contacts in view, the hornet beeing a more modern aircraft, at least at the moment it just centers it around the L/S track, say I have 2 tracks 20nm wide, which the radar could scan both if it scans between them, shouldn't it do it? Or IRL does it just centers itself on the L/S track? Find that hard to belive since the tomcat has this function, but I might be wrong

Thanks

There's few few options. You can leave it in manual, in which case it'll center on the TDC cursor. Or you can set a scan center bias by depressing the TDC on a blank area of the scope, which essentially marks a point on the scope you want to center the scan volume on - though we don't have this capability yet.

I'm aware of that, that is not the point of this thread tho, what I'm asking if if the IRL hornet has the same capability in TWS Auto to modulate azimuth and elevation to keep the most possible track files in the scan volume as the Tomcat does, and it will be a feature we'll get in the future, or does the IRL jet does not have such function

AFAIK, TWS AUTO in the Hornet only centers the scan volume on the L&S target.

In the real aircraft? Thats sad...

The actual aircraft does optimize the centroid and azimuth/bars setting to keep as many tracks as possible in a similar way to the Tomcat.

That's what I thought, we need this!

Interesting, I take it there's calculations under the hood that prioritize L&S and DT2 (as long as they exist) to try and ensure they stay in the scan volume?

Yeah, that's part of it. It has a prioritization scheme more complex than but similar in nature to the Tomcat's.

I hope we get our hands in that soon, would make life much easier in complex scenarios

sounds very useful

is this planned to be simulated?

I would assume so but let's wait to hear it from someone from ED

Well it's not a bug more of a not yet avalible feature so... I at least didn't report it

Mmmm, if the AUTO feature is implemented then it's implemented wrong. I would understand what you say if TWS AUTO wasn't there, but it is, and it is supposed to use a centroid.
