Correct way to uninstall DCS Open Beta (to avoid problems installing modules later)?

Hi

 

I need to uninstall my Windows 10 Pro N and install Windows 10 Pro to fix a problem with my Reverb G2 VR headset. I was just wondering if I need to uninstall the DCS modules before uninstalling DCS Open Beta to avoid problems installing them later or can I just run the standard uninstall function found in Windows 10 Settings-->Apps

Not sure if it is still necessary but I would deactivate all modules from module manager. Also copy dcs game to a different drive so you don’t have to download it again. Make a back-up of dcs folders from windows saved game folder. You can load key mappings from that folder from each controller per aircraft.

Hi,

 

You don't need to uninstall any modules, but if you have DCS installed on the same drive as Windows then you probably would want to move it onto another drive. Be sure to also make a backup copy of the /Saved Games/DCS/ folder, to preserve your DCS settings. Also, save the windows shortcuts that you use for starting DCS, to restore them on your new Windows.

Also, BigNewy said in another post yesterday/today, that you should log off DCS before doing major changes.
Have you tried to just change the serial in Windows? Have never had any issues hajj from Home to Pro, or Enterprise to Pro myself. That's why I ask.

I need to reinstall my Windows 10 Pro from scratch. The N edition I chose last time doesn't support Windows Mixed Reality Portal which is needed to run the HP Reverb G2 VR headset I just bought. I also have a lot of other software I need and I'm running out of storage on the one m.2 SSD I got installed. So I'm gonna do a clean install, install a second m.2 SSD (for the games) and then download all the games and software again. It's a lot of work but I'd rather do it right, right now and avoid future headaches.

Have no fear, this is Microsoft.  There will be headaches. 

 

The last time I had to do this with DCS it was pretty painless, apart from the download which was expected.  They've really put some polish on their set up.  As was already mentioned your ~\saved games\dcs folder is golden.  Don't forget to back that up.  Otherwise, unless you have fifteen or twenty USB control devices that the new OS is going to re-enumerate you should be good to go.
