General Feedback

Some general feedback on the campaign.

TLDR

- I'm stuck at mission 3 with an issue where the ground units don't finish their task and I cant progress.

- Dialog is generally ok, just wording sounds weird at times

- Overall feels like I'm babysitting stupid AI units than taking part in some massive offensive.  Having to provide CAS against handful of infantry units feels like overkill

Mission 1:

Easy enough to take out the structure yourself while the wingmen take out the tanks.

When you need to cover the ground units, when they are under fire its annoying that you don't get any information about where.  They want help but don't give any info about where the OPFOR units are.

Turns out there are two units attacking but you can't easily spot them and taking one out you won't get dialog about any more - so you can take out one group, not spot the 2nd group and just fail the mission because you didn't notice the 2nd group.

Mission 2:

Generally disliked this mission because the mission brief is to destroy silkworm and NOT on the bulk of the mission, which is taking out the arty units nearby.  This is annoying because I will take a loadout based on the mission brief, so if the mission drastically changes I'm left having to reload because I've brought the wrong / ineffective weapons.

Taking out silkworm is stupidly easy - fire off a sidearm and wait.

Getting locations via co-ords is annoying, but not impossible - its more annoying that you are better off writing them down, reload the mission and input them in at the start and save you time during the mission.

Even more annoying is you're expected to destroy ALL units in all 3 locations, but sending off your wingmen will result in their quick death - so you end up having to destroy ALL units in all 3 locations in a fixed time; which usually ends up in mission failure simply due to running out of time.

I ended up getting past it by taking out the AAA threat at each location and then getting wingmen to attack the location I've just attacked.  Again very annoying because it feels like I'm baby sitting the AI rather than having a team of professionals attacking targets.

Mission 3:

Cold start was initially annoying, especially with the wheel chocks bug where you can't remove the chocks after engine start.  Once I'm up and heading to WP 1 its fine.

The most annoying part is when the ground units are heading to WP and some OPFOR units appear.  You get big dramatic music and dialog to find its only 3 guys.  Literally 3 guys who just stand around.  And if you don't take them out within a few mins (maybe 2 mins) its game over.  WTF?  Why are 3 guys so bad that the ground units can't take them out themselves?  Why is it game over because I didn't take them out when they are literally standing around doing nothing...  I could kinda understand it if friendlies are under fire, but its not, and the time limit is too restrictive.

Again I feel like I'm baby sitting some useless AI units if they can't handle 3 guys just hanging around and they expect me to provide CAS.

Then I hit the bug where nothing else happens.  Wait at WP1 until I run out of fuel and drop out of the sky.

Don't  play it. Its bullshit for now. I try play mission 4 (night with task to destroy laboratories) with TARAWA almost on beach. They had to smoke to much wheat iot figure this out. And of course wheel chocks have to be removed before start engine.

I was unable to find one fucking APC hidden among building's with useles UAV above the spot not even lasing the target. And what ....mission over after several minutes.

STUCKED at mission 3 , the mission you have to destroy the chemical weapons by providing air support for the marines. I can't find those infantry that hammer wants me so bad to take care of, i can't see much, the area is mountainous so you can not easily manouver around the area, the NVG sometimes glitch the terrain textures, its so hard to see whats down there. I can't believe its the 2nd time i have to do this thing after the 1 st mission which i replayed 10-15 times before i figured out which infantry to bomb. hunting for 3 guys in a mountainous region at night in a harrier is a bit hard.

Maybe some blue/red smoke near the target or some kind of laser designation some coordonates, anything, are those navyseals sent in with sticks and rocks ?

Hi navy66.
3 mission.
1 WPN:
  - Destroy the enemy APC.
- Destroy enemy infantry at the same point after warning.
2 WPN:
- Destroy armored vehicles (2 units)
- Destroy the enemy helicopter
3 WPN:
- Destroy armored vehicles (2 units)
- Destroy 2 cars
- If enemy fighters appear, request support from the F-16 flight.

Don't ignore text messages.
If you missed the message, you can go to the Radio menu / Tasks / Active tasks / - view current tasks.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was very happy to see, that someone made a campaign for the harrier, because I really like to fly in that thing and there was not much available for single players.

I got it now that it was released for the stable version and I just played the first mission.

Briefings were good, all the triggers seem to work and there was quite a lot going on. I also liked that you have very detailed comm options and wingmen commands via the F-10 menu and  that you can always check your current objectives. In a few other missions, there were situations in which I did not really know what the game wanted me to do.

Sure, the voice acting and the music is kind of cheesy and might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it. It gave the whole thing kind of a B-Movie charme 😉 .

So far, I really liked it, looking forward to the rest of the missions 🙂

Thank you very much for the campaign!!

I've just finished the campaign, and overall I have to say good work Eagle86.  I got more used to the voice overs and characters as the campaign went on, and all the missions were interesting and challenging.  Having the wingman along lets the player decide whether to do everything themselves to increase the difficulty, or relay on the wingmen to help to make things more manageable.

The only things I didn't like in the later stages:

- That refueling hercules is really slow in the Tbilisi mission, if you upped the tanker speed to 240 control would be a lot easier.  I couldn't use fixed flaps because it was too slow, but auto flaps keeps changing the flight angle.  I ended up cracking the nozzles down a bit and just about made it.

- Escorting the red plane was impossible for me.  The AI goes into vertical maneouvres I can't live with, and I kept ending up too far away.  I made use of the skip mission for that one.

Thanks for a fun campaign in an under-served airframe.  Hope you do some more. 🙂

I am now five missions in and I really like it. Bombing stuff at night and using NVG and the drones for lasing was very exciting.

Does anyone know if I can use the "normal" wingmen commands in this campaing? I have not figured out how to do that...

The "scripted" commands via the F-10 Menu work great, but I want to be able to tell them to RTB or to anchor, since I had a few times where they were crashing when I came in for my Landing on the Tawara.

Thank you very much, works great! I found it strange, that they did not give a response, so I thought orders were not working.

I am at Mission 9 now and I am having a blast with this campaign. So happy that there finally is something for the harrier!🙂
