SmallsTheAmish Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Welcome to the VMA-311 "Tomcats"! VMA-311 is a squadron of Harrier enthusiasts committed to working in joint operations alongside members of the VMFA-314 Black Knights and the 13th MEU, with our operations centering around supporting the ground component of the 13th MEU. The 13th MEU falls under Joint Task Force 191 - Task Force Jupiter. JTF-191 was formed in June of 2020 and is composed of 13 squadrons with 65+ active members. We operate as a tactical realism group with an emphasis on joint operations with all branches of military aviation. In the VMA-311, and inherently with the Harrier, we tend to focus our operations in a direct support role with the ground combat element of the 13th MEU in large-scale campaigns that encompass the entirety of JTF-191. With our ever-changing airframe, we run training missions and smaller-scale operations to keep in practice with all the exciting new changes the airframe receives as time passes. In a typical week, we will likely conduct joint-trainings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2030EST, with an operation or campaign mission on Saturdays, 2030EST. Our campaigns typically run for 3-6 months, time-frame dependent on the outcome of each mission, and with a campaign mission every other weekend. Our campaigns are dynamically created with several variables to include a stores-management system, complex narrative and designs, and each mission is accompanied with an OPORD, intelligence briefs, and collaborative mission planning to further enhance our goal of tactical realism. New to the Harrier? Fear not! We have developed a 5-step training pipeline to allow newer pilots a chance to learn and improve on their skills. At the end of our training program, aviators will be in a position that allows them to self-teach, and to continue to improve as a pilot!
