Uncontrolled Roll

In some missions, I seem to have an uncontrolled roll that I cannot stop with my Hotas buttons.  Is any one else having this issue?

Have you checked your stick inputs?

And what happens when you use the autopilot, will it roll so it the autopilot fails to keep it on heading?

Hmm, only in some missions sounds like you have a very unbalanced loadout. After firing one Rb-15 out of 2 I do get a roll tendency, but I never find it all that hard to control (with stick, not trim) though I try to not delay the second launch longer than necessary. Apart from that I have never had any problems with uncontrolled roll on a undamaged Viggen.

I double checked my axis commands and no double entries.  That would have been a great find but alas not the case.

This is happening all the time now since I reinstalled the module.  I am going to re-reinstall again later and see what happens.

No unbalanced load used.

I just tried the landing tutorial and had to give up because of the roll.  As of now, I cannot fly the viggen so I guess it is back to the A10.

Hi @sobe. Thanks for the track. I took back control of the aircraft and was able to stop the permanent left roll using "Trim: Right Wing down" control. You should check your roll trim controls.

I just ran some tests.  My joystick worked perfectly as a trimmer in the A10c.  When I again tried the Viggen, it did not seem to control the trim of the  plane.  So I deleted my x axis on the joystick and put in on one of my throttle levers and the control was much better but difficult to use.  My trimmer commands are correct. Interesting.

I think I may have solved the problem.  I have a Virpil base and a TM WH stick.  So I downloaded and calibrated the base with the latest software from Virpil and I think that may have solved the problem.  Only the future will tell for sure.  Still testing.

Re-calibrating the joystick was the answer.  Just did the landing tutorial and had no issues with the roll.  I wonder why this plane was the only one that had this issue.

OK.  The trim problem has come back again.  I don't know why.  I calibrated the stick with the Virpil software and the windows game controller calibration and the plane still trims way to one side in the landing tutorial.  I jumped into the A10 and had no problems.

You don't have a second stick/input as well as the stick you're using? DCS usually adds every controller it can find for inputs, and sometimes it becomes very wrong. For example, I'm using a TM Cougar throttle and stick combination with MFG Crosswind as rudder pedals and a crappy Saitek AV8R for radar inputs in the Viggen. DCS default setup sets both the AV8R and the TM setup to control the same things, and thinks that the MFG have buttons ect and not just 3 analog axis. That AV8R can really mess things up (it can be quite hysterical in the axises) if I try to fly a module that I haven't set up properly for some reason. Ok, I reread your first response to my questions and this shouldn't be the problem, so unfortunately I have no idea what the problem is.

I only can add the idea of re-checking if any axis or button is assigned to the trim axis.

I remember adding my TRP rudder to DCS ... the rudder pedals were assigned to thrust and aileron, ... no comment on that.

Please also check the emergency trim, not only the normal trim!

  • 1 year later...

I'm using a T1600, so a cheap stick but more to the point, not the same one as the OP.  I've been experiencing sudden roll movements in the Viggen, and for the life of me, I don't know why. I assume it's not a bug, this is an established module, but maybe I'm hitting some button? I didn't change the trim (deliberately), was climbing at around 400k - slow, I know. Then the roll started, to the right for me. Aileron roll, uncommanded. I sped up to 550+ but I was still holding the stick to almost fully left to keep me level. I tried trim and it helped a bit but obviously wasn't the issue. I restarted the mission and the same thing happened. Restarting PC now. Curious problem.
