1. is there a way to prevent DCS from randomly dumping me in the WMR house?

2. What mask size is preferred in the _HMD.hlsl file?

I have never had #1 happen. DCS is solid for me in my Reverb G2.

My procedure for using it:

Power on headset.

Close the standard WMR that automatically opens.

Launch WMR for Steam VR Beta ( this launches WMR, Steam, and Steam VR).

Launch DCS from desktop shortcut.

Lower headset over eyes.

When I exit DCS, I first close Steam VR, then Steam, then WMR for Steam VR,

Note: I run the beta of both Steam VR and WMR for Steam VR.

I typically game around 3 hours a day, and so far never had a glitch ( app 3 months).

mask size varies from person to person, its a facial geometry thing ... mine is currently set to 575, start there, decrease it until you see a "ring around" the viewing area and then bring it back up until its invisible ...

For me: (DCS standalone)
C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Bazar\shaders\deferred\_HMD.hlsl

Edit the line:  #define MASKSIZE          0.575   // change this to adjust the size of the mask, 0.525 seems to be ok for the Vive, 0.600 should be ok for the rift cv1

I used the default .575 with the stock gasket.  When I switched to the 3dWard gasket that gets my eyes closer to the lenses I had to increase it to .625.  I'm not sure how much efficiency benefit you get from this.  As a test I lowered it to .3 so I was looking through a telescope, so to speak, and didn't see an fps improvement over the defaults.

I saw no benefit in using the shaders mod at all. I stopped using it many months ago.

Ok, next issue:

Suddenly, when start everything up, put on the G2 I can't use my mouse in DCS. If I lift the headgear I can use the mouse (viewing the mirrored display). Put it back on, lose it again. Only a reboot brings it back to normal.

Have you at least tried the Caucuses terrain mod? I find it to look far better than stock.

Have you got the mouse constrained to VR window on VR tab? I find starting up VR/DCS in funky ways can screw up your mouse too.

All I do is just put my G2 on, wait for WMR to load, then turn right to look at the virtual desktop window I put on the wall to my right, say 'Select' to activate desktop mirror, say 'Teleport' to get a littler closer if required then look at my DCS VR shortcut in the taskbar and say 'Select', sit back and wait for DCS to load. Have no problems with mouse at all.

This is usually because you have either started dcs from the desktop, or have used the desktop after firing up dcs.  Wmr seems to get confused, manipulate the desktop via the window in the house, if you need to. Forcing window to full screen can help if this is happening in game. And if you still can’t get it back pressing the windows button on the controller until the wmr menu appears, and the pressing the windows key again to close it will return the focus to the wmr/game window.

Is it possible to add a shortcut to DCS among others inside the Cliff House?

I do think it's cool that I can launch the WMR app/desktop and play a youtube video in a small window while in flight. 🙂

i have done it from within WMR  for Skatezillas app and then u run everything from there via script, but yes you can add a shortcut in SteamVR make sure you have added DCS.exe to Steam the VR library , see my 3090 guide for how to do it

I have tried this multiple times and can't seem to what I'm expecting to happen.

What does happen is, when I click Launch on the WMR from Steam library, it simply launches the native WMR application as evidenced by the Launch button not switching to Close (it remains Launch). So click Launch again get this...

You should have a Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR shortcut on your desktop.

That is all you need.

Power on headset.

Close the initial WMR that launches automatically. Do not use this one.

Then launch WMR for Steam VR ( preferably Beta). It will launch, Steam VR will launch.

Put headset on top of head - launch DCS from the desktop shortcut for it.

When it gets to main menu, lower headset over eyes and adjust.

Go fly.

It is quick, easy, and will work every time with no hassle at all. At least it does for me.

I never see the WMR environment.

I never see the Steam VR environment.

Likewise when I am done with that flying session, after exiting DCS I close Steam VR, then I close WMR for Steam VR.

Till the next session, then rinse and repeat.

I do this every day. I typically fly between 3-5 hours a day on most days. This method for me just works , and works beautifully every time.

Not sure why you’re making it so complicated, Don.

I just put on the headset, Cliff House is there, then I just click on DCS icon and SteamVR automatically loads and then DCS. Perfect every time.

Either way...I still end up with the same application running (Windows Mixed Reality Portal). I guess I'm question why we needed to install both per the setup guide?

You need to have both installed, WMR for Steam VR just links in through WMR. If you did not need Steam VR then you would not need WMR for Steam VR. DCS does not support WMR natively.

There are not two WMR programs running at the same time.

Because you do, in the same way you need dcs and the f5 module if you want to run an f5 campaign.you can just install the f5... and expect dcs to work
