Mission 02: Night Refuelling Advice

OK, I can refuel during the day , but, i cannot seem to find the basket at night... i tried with NVG's and i couldn't see it in front of me, i tried it without NVG  and i just couldn't see it ...

 

 

any tips or advice ?

turning on the lights helps considerably ...

It’s just really tough 

You'll see the basket using the light but of course don’t look at it! Which is really hard not to at night because it will get lit up. 
I had to use radar to find the tanker because it’s lights are out until you’re really close and it’s pitch black.

once i had the light on i didnt find it to be a problem, in some ways it was easier than day refueling in a bank as  the only frame of reference was the hud and tanker wings

I think the last time I did AAR at night was the Maple Flag campaign in the A-10C and I don’t recall having such trouble finding the tanker. The A-10 doesn’t have radar either nor would you use that IRL I imagine. I wonder if the tanker should be running dark like that until you’re so close and if it’s a mission or AI setting. IRL I would think that’s really dangerous.The Maple Flag mission wasn’t pitch black, there was moonlight, this one is total darkness. Amazingly I actually spotted the tanker for an instant but then the sun set completely.

Sure. Even with that it’s rather hard to find.
