Hi,

Yeah so Im getting a new DCS computer to help support my HP G2. After reading a few older post on this subject I would like to make sure I understand my steps. So, I will be downloading DCS open beta from Eagle Dynamics site like usual but my main concern is my Mods and Maps. When I sign in to my DCS account with my new machine will my mods and maps be in there to download all of them into this new rig? I know I will have to rebind all my commands back in my hotas for each but is this how it works?  I just wanna make sure ...

Thanks for any advice.

You can save the download time, by copying the /Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/ path onto the new PC (using an external disk if neccesary), unless you have a pretty high Internet connection, in which case it is less hassle to just reinstall everything.

Yes .. but if you copy the whole folder from your old PC, then the Maps and Modules will already be there.

Copy from the old PC the /Saved Games/DCS/ or /DCS.openbeta/ folder .. it contains not only your bindings, but also your Logbook, Campaign status, User Missions, Screenshots, Tracks, etc.

One unfortunate aspect of DCS is that the Hotas bindings file names contain the USB ID string of the Hotas, and this changes whenever you change Windows (changing PC has an implicit change of windows). You can bind just one button and then check the files location to see what is the new ID, then rename the old files to match ... its like this:

NBJwSkD.jpg

Here you can see that the ID on my old windows was 5EDDF670-etc .. while the same ID on my new one is 4240B3C0-etc  ... if you just rename the old file (that you brought from your old PC) with the name that DCS now uses, you will restore all your bindings with just this rename. However, you have to repeat it for every aircraft you have.

Best regards

Oh okay thats great advice too. I did notice that I had 2 DCS folders " I have both stable and open beta on this pc. There is 1 in Program File/Eagle Dynamics this location has all my mods/aircraft. The other dcs is in my c;/drive/user/saved games. I noticed this when I was trying to download and add the F22A mod. I had to create an aircraft folder in there for it to work for some reason. I have very high speed connection. So another option as you mention is to Copy the Eagle Dynamic folder in the program files on a external drive which I do have but also copy my saved game DCS folder too and put that in the same place as it was in old pc?

Great advice thanks ! you also have been a great work to me starting out here a year ago ...Thx!
