Where do I find the current version that is installed on my computer system?

If you run the updater it will tell you the version number.

Is that the only way?  What happens if I run the updater and I already have the latest version installed?

Way down in the lower right of the Home screen when DCS boots up, about where the windows clock would be is the version number.

It will give a message that the installed version is "up to date".
