History reference.
On June 22, 1941, German troops launched a grandiose offensive with three army groups "North", "Center", "South". The fiercest battles took place in Belarus. Tank armies, supported by aviation, rushed to Moscow. Baranovichi airfield has existed since the time of the Russian Empire; during the attack on Moscow, the airfield was occupied by the Luftwaffe. From there, strikes were delivered to Moscow and Leningrad.
From field airfields near Mogelev, Soviet fighters fought an unequal battle with the German air armies.
During the Cold War, at various times, the territory of Belarus was extremely militarized by military facilities. In service were air defense regiments: MiG-17, MiG-19, MiG-23, MiG-25, MiG-29, Su-27. Su-24 tactical bomber regiment. Long-range aviation airfields Tu-22, Tu-22M3, helicopter military units Mi-26, Mi-8, Mi-24, which took part in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident.
