I mean the original price already wasn´t that funny but most probably worth it. The actual prices for all new graphic cards are rediculous. I hope and pray that my GPU is reliable at these times (I knock on wood, knock knock). Shame on all who are guilty for this. I really thought about a new GPU and now I have to shift it to.......who knows.

It has become so crazy, in Germany, there are now services where you can rent graphics cards.

A GTX 3090 for example costs 450 € for one month. If you rent for 6 months at least, it gets cheaper - to "only" 200 € per month !

Can this get any more ridiculous ?

this will get as ridiculous as wallets of those interested will support.

would it really make you feel better staring at an empty shelf with MSRP sticker on it?

the root cause of the situation is supply not meeting the demand, obviously. sticker price that retail puts on a box does not change the supply levels. I find it ridiculous to blame or shame the retail . but we already know where that conversation is going, i'm going to bow out, feel free to keep shaking fist at clouds.

In the last generation the 2080Ti was the hightest people usually would get and the 1200+ quid seemed to be very pricy. The Titan RTX was something almost nobody would think of getting.

Now it seems, that thinking has changed and many people consider the pricing of the former Titan RTX to be "normal". I know of a few people who now own 3090s and have paid north of 2000,- Euros.

Even myself, looking for a RX6800 tend to want to buy one for 900 Euros (MSRP is 580!), since compared to other listings at 1000-1400 this almost seems cheap.

But since I already have made the experience several times, that investing 1000,- in hardware for DCS gives you only a very minor upgrade in overall experience, I probaly will not buy one until I can pay MSRP or lower.

Just recently upgraded my oc-ed 9600K to a 9900K with now change at all (to occasional stutters) and then bought a 5600X after the 9900K made my mainboard make strange noises, and also threw in some additional 32gigs of RAM, again with no actual change. Well maybe 3fps more in the Tomcat on the SC. Those 3fps fore sure are worth the investment, I guess! 😉

Anyway, I often think Lisa Sue and JenHsun Huang are laughing all day long at the stupidity of many of us, willing to pay such prices.

I have wanted to build a new computer.  To find all the parts I wanted became impossible.  The microprocessor would be available but the motherboard

would vanish.  It wasn't worth the effort  trying to locate a 30xx series video card.  Purchasing one component and waiting until the other became available

was a crap shoot.  Also if you wait too long and finally fire the parts up and one is defective, cant return it.

Well I received an email showing that Alienware has what I wanted...mostly.  For several months they have not had the top end of video cards.  They must have

received the needed chips as they actually build their own rgx 3090 cards.  Their card is shorter than the general run of that card.  They won't sell the card by itself

as it has to be in a system.  99% of the time I build my own systems.  Cannot build without parts available.

So I bit the bullet and ordered a Alienware R-11...The specs are; RGX 3090, 64gb ram, 2tb mvme ssd, 2tb hd, , 1kwatt ps, I9-10900 kf, water cooled, super fast

blue tooth etc.  I ordered new fans and a couple of other items as the unit as it comes is loud and runs a little warm.  The mods will tame the beast.

Pretty expensive.  But actually came in less money than I had calculated my parts list for the system I wanted to build.  It will arrive in about 2 weeks.

The world wide DRAM shortage is mostly because of political conflict between Korea and Japan.  Japan was primary source of liquid hydrogen fluoride and silicone wafers for DRAM Samsung produces.  And Japan placed trade restrictions on 3 key materials.  Now Samsung is producing liquid hydrogen fluoride internally and found other suppliers from Taiwan and Belgium so it should ease soon.

BTW, I'm just passing on the news so please don't turn this political.

If you guys are in the US you can get on EVGA waiting list. It's probably really long now, but that's how I got my 3090 at retail. Had to sell it though, needed the money and the offers I was getting on it were too nice to pass up. Wish I still had it though. Need to update my sig.

Retailers aren't scalping if the distributors they get them from are charging inflated prices as well. This probably isn't going to ease until TSMC and Samsung get more fabs online. Intel, Samsung, and TSMC are both dropping 10's of billions on new fabs but they can't throw those up overnight. Semiconducter/Processor fabs are probably one of the most complex and expensive things that humans are capable of right now. It sucks but either Ethereum needs to come down in price or more cards need to be made, no way around it.

Many crypto coins can be mined with GPU's. I did that for little less than a year with my 1080ti to get the inflated price back when I got it some years ago. You usually get PAID in Bitcoin

but as Sn8ke_iis said, you don't mine BC with a GPU, you'd never earn a dime so to speak.

Actually, this whole COVID-MINING-WTF situation makes it almost impossible to build a good rig for about MSRP or even less. Gone are those days when you hit "ORDER NOW" and a few days later you had it all coming in, nope....not 2021 and likely not 2022.

I received my new R-11 Alienware.  I9 10900KF, 64GB 3400 DDR4 HYPER X, 2TB SSD, 2TB HDD soon to be changed to SSD, RTX3090 24GB 6X, 1kW power supply, Killer wi-fi

w/bluetooth 5.1 and liquid cooling.  I could not have built this same configuration for the price I paid.  I will mod this with 2 more fans another SSD.

I also have a R8 w/ I9 9900K, 32gb, 1TB SSD, 2TB hdd to be changed to sdd, RTX 2080TI w/11GB, wi-fi and bluetooth, 850w power. Its also new. water cooled

I also have a semi new I7 4790K, RTX 1070, 16gb, 26gb ssd, 1TB HDD, 750w power  water cooled.

The programs I want to install on these various computers are, DCS, MSFS, IL2 and a F-! racing game.  So I will wait until 2.7 arrives before loading.

Question, which computer to install which games?   I would kinda like to save the R-11 for up coming programs.  I have available a new 50in sony monitor, a new 32in curve Pixio I want to use with the F1 setup and 2 32in Viewsonics.  I also have a 3- 21in monitor setup for an older version of DCS/ LOCKON flight sim setup.  I will put together a VR setup.

I have 3 new other 32in Viewsonics I had purchased for another setup that I have not finished.  They are for a 6dof motion system.  That system will be run on

a small super computer...VME coupled with an Amiga 4000 and a IBM UNIX system.

In my garage I have a number of IBM clones from yesteryear  with lots of flight sims for those times with lots of cool video cards. 8088,80286,80386,80486, Pentiums etc.

I have a full compliment of Virpil gear along with a helicopter cyclic and collective.

I have a large collection of computers.

Asus wants 2.400 US$ for a 3090-EKWB fitted card.

https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/asus-releases-geforce-rtx-3090-(2400-usd)-and-3070-(999-usd)-fitted-with-ekwb-water-block.html

ARE THEY NUTS ?  WTF do they smoke ?

Tbh, I am about to give up Windows and Desktop PC's again, at least for a few years, gonna park DCS as well and gonna buy 1 or 2 Macs. For the price of 1 decent GPU I can get a whole lot more fun from Apple these days, ok, not for gaming, but there are consoles for the kids and I am tired of gaming anyway. I will miss DCS and Nordschleife racing but I do that so seldom that I am not willing to pay ANY of these prices. Time to show them my behind with my pants DOWN.

2.400 ???   They have forgotten how money has to be earned and that there is a #1 rule: Family FIRST....I just can't justify and even if I wanted, I couldnt afford it anymore to keep up with this hardware race..no, I am OUT. For pure lack of money to participate and foremost out of principle.

Err.. The MSRP on 3090 cards was $1500 to begin with and it is higher these days due to the lack of components. When you add a factory installed water block which is a limited series and was always expensive, I don't understand the outrage.

If you can get a 3080/3090 somewhere for an acceptable price, you can buy a water block from EKWB and install it yourself.
