Already mentioned the Gripen several times in the "What Aircraft" thread.

JAS-39A, although still advanced and modern, would be awesome, and somewhat plausible.

C'mon, Sweden is already upgrading their JAS-39A, and everyone else is using JAS-39C. Plus, the NG is on its way, so I don't think it would compromise much.

Marvelous aircraft, and really good looking. A Mirage 2000 would be sweet as well. DELTA POWER :punk:!

And by the way, FC2 has no Ka-50 as you say. DCS will be patched together with FC2.0 (but not only because of it), but it's still a different product.

You suggest the FC2 Ka50 will be different (less detailed/realistic) than DCS Ka50?

No, it will be the very same.

If any changes are made, they'll only improve realism.

The thing is, you mentioned "FC2 Ka-50" in your post. It sounds like it would be a different version from the DCS Ka-50.

Just to clarify, the products are different, and you won't be able to fly a Ka-50 in FC2. You might meet some Ka-50s around, but it won't be a flyable.

Sometimes I talk way too much about things that needed just a tiny explanation :D

I now, I now. Just meant DCS Ka50 in FC2 environment :) Hope it will stay such awesome bird and won't prove useless at enemy fighter presence...

Must have overread it in the posts.

ED! Go and sign the contract with Saab. Tell them, if they agree, I'll buy a Saab9003 from them ;).

I used to love her, but I had to kill her

I had to put her, six feet under

And I can still hear her complain

This may have been brought up before, but what about rain/snow on the glass? Then the wiper on the Ka-50 will actually be usefull! I would add to realism and should not add much stress to the system.

Given the Ka-50's lack of even the basic CM such as chaff, even if someone tells you that an AIM-7 is coming to you, technically, you don't have any means to evade it... I won't mention an AIM-120 fire&forget missile with 30nm range!

I don't want to see me as a doom-sayer but, in such "What If" scenario like FC2/DCS server, modern jets(with all the modern equipment) pitted against Ka-50... well, it will be helpless unless Ka-50 pilots develops some real attack helicopter pilot skills!

If modled correctly and flown correctly, It should not be an issue. If you stay on the deck, you are masked by it to air radar. And if they are really high, they are even less likely to see you on radar. There is a bit of a blind sport for a radar under the nose. It caries on settings and aircraft type, but for the most part, very few choppers will get shot by a fighter. The A-10 is a differnt story since it plays in the dirt also. In fact I think there was one recorded a/a kill in the first gulf war where an A-10 pilot gunned a chopper down. I think it was a Hind.

What you mention is true in RL but in the fictional scenarios in FC2/DCS servers, where you will have to strike a target and an F-15 has to defend it, the jet pilot will know in advance where to look for you.

In real life things would be more complicated, with long range SAMS threatening the jet, medium&short range SAMS lurking, with their radars turned off, waiting for the right time to switch it on and fire the missile. In such environment things would be easier for the Ka-50.

But are these threats present to deny the enemy fighter every freedom of movement? Do you think that most people who build missions bother with providing an ultra realistic environment?

This outerra engine has great protential, though I'm not that impressed by how it looks like in this movie. It has unrealistic colors and looks very "game" like.

But I guess this can be made much better by designers. The terrain engine appears to run super smooth.

Thanks for posting :)

the tree's look very good but also they is almost no variation in them. at least in the movies. wonder how they manage to render that many is good quality.

there's also some impressive mountain screenshots that supposly show displacement mapping. not that impressive in the movie.

regardles, there is a bright future :D

The trees are sprites, a higher resolution of the trick used in Doom originally.

They're densely enough packed and distant here that you can easily forget this whilst cruising around, but if they placed you in front of one and strafed around it, it would be immediately apparent - like being on a merry-go-round where the tree is a pole at the center of the ride rotating around at the same speed with you, not appearing to move.

As such, they can look pretty decent where the situations fits, but actually are way less computationally complex (no back-faces to render, only 2 dimensions, etc.) than even the cross-cut trees in Lockon.

Edit: They're nice enough to talk about their engine and cover it here actually: http://www.outerra.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=15

ED devs are working on their own terrain engine. They aren't going to use a third party engine.

I doudt it would be good for a high fidelity flight sim like DCS..

FPS's and Quake war games yes.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Sounds like you confused the game with real life. Have you ever played Flaming Cliffs online? Really high flying chopper will be like a sitting duck for F15's radar. Completely disagree with you.

In real life, I would suspect that any helos that went out without fighter protection (sweep, escort, TARCAP, etc.) would be sitting ducks as soon as they were spotted by enemy fighters, with or without RWRs and A2A missiles.

Practice safe CAS - fly with protection!

A real F-15 will find you even if you are landed from 50nm away, just so long as your rotors are spinning. It has already happened, and that heli got bombed when the F-15 got to it ... but the radar was never taken out of A2A mode.

If it was modeled correctly, you'd be a sitting duck in that Ka-50 against a fighter anywhere, any time, unless you had actual ground to hide behind - and even then it would have to be a pretty darned deep or steep place to hind behind if you were looking not to be spotted by an F-15 flying at over 30000' altitude.

I wish DCS had whole planet to fly...

Why not? It's just a terrain engine, it could be used for any game they'd like to make.

That would be nice, yeah, but at least DCS has a lot more precise information on the terrain it does have than, f.ex, FSX or X-Plane has anywhere. ;)

Not cointing rediculously expensive third party apps of course. With those you can even give Condor amazing terrain. :)
