DimSim Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 The P-51D now comes in two variants, the 25 and 30 models. I see config folders: ...\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\P-51D ...\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\P-51D-30-NA Yet in game, the Controls settings tab only lists a single 'P-51D Real'. When I modify my control scheme, sometimes it modifies the 'P-51D' folder and sometimes 'P-51D-30-NA'. How does this work or how is it intended to work? 1
DimSim Posted March 22, 2021 Author Posted March 22, 2021 No, I just tried modifying the Easy profile and a new folder appeared: P-51D_easy I renamed both, then started game and modified the default profile P-51D-30-NA was created. I guess P-51D is an old version folder. My confusion is that sometimes when I start the game or modify the controls, the game appears to use the older version. Perhaps this is a bug, or due to recent update? I am using the Open Beta.
Nealius Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 When we first got the second variant (I can't remember which came first) they were split into two control categories: P-51D-25-NA and P-51D-30-NA. At some point they merged into the single P-51D Real category, but it appears the config files remain seperate. I guess ED did some coding magic to link the two config files.
Silent Film Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Why to introduce the "30" model anyways, it just got two antennas instead of one. The same with the P-47, why three variants, when the "40" variant is the best, and the other two bring nothing useful.
Nealius Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) -30 was used in the Pacific, and I assume they were adding that to work with long-term projects like the Marianas. On the Jug, I'm still scratching my head on that one. Perhaps versatility of use between Summer 1944 Normandy map and the could-be-anything-1940s Channel map. Edited March 22, 2021 by Nealius 1
Art-J Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 (edited) -30 Mustang was the original variant, released back in 2012 when it was supposed to be a one-off technology demonstrator, without any WWII content following. It's the -25, which was added recently, and rightfully so, to fit Normandy and Channel maps. As for control config folders, it's the same as with clipped and non-clipped Spitfire - initially one folder in /Saved Games for both variants was causing various shenanigans with controls not always loading correctly upon game startup. So it was safer for the user to manually create two separate config folders, with content files just copied from one to the other. Same problems happened later when the second Mustang variant was introduced. I still use two folder for each of these planes, just to be safe. Eventually ED managed to sort it all out with P-47, though... At least I think/hope they did. Haven't had any problems with controls when switching between Thunderbolts so far! DimSim Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 In the meantime, I removed the P-51D folder, leaving only P-51D-30-NA. Both 25 and 30 models appear to work correctly. The P-51D folder has not re-appeared.
DimSim Posted March 25, 2021 Author Posted March 25, 2021 I spoke too soon. The P-51D folder reappeared when I played a campaign mission with the 25. There must be a bug, the config files are not kept in sync and can't be selected separately from within the sim.
AstonMartinDBS Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 (edited) I had the same problem right now. Since my purchase of the P-51D on 5th january 2022 all input config settings have been saved in the folder P-51D - until today. About two hours ago I've started a training mission and was wondering that all input settings have been resetted to default. I've restarted DCS and even Windows 10 several times, restored my input config backup into the P-51D directory and ran a DCS repair, but all configs for the P-51D seemed to be lost. After the re-assignement of my input settings for the P-51D I recognized, that a new config folder P-51D-30-NA has been created beside the old P-51D folder, which still containes my initial configs. That's very strange, because I played exactly this training mission several times (what means: with the same P-51D) without any problems and didn't make any changes at the DCS installation... IMHO this thread should be moved into the "Bugs and Problems" subforum.
