Recommended Posts

These look superb and very helpful, the work to create them is greatly appreciated. Bit of a newbie on tech matters, can someone point me to a thread on incorporating the knee boards into the game for incockpit reading please?

thanks for any assistance

Have a look here Kneeboard Builder (windows app) - Mods and Apps - ED Forums (eagle.ru)

Excellent app, but we've had no contact from the dev for quite a few months now, so not sure about ongoing support.

Just create a correctly named folder structure in your saved games, and in this case, extract the images from the download zip and place them in the folder...

For the hornet it is..

C:\Users\<YOUR PC NAME>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\KNEEBOARD\FA-18C_hornet\

Helps if you bind buttons to kneeboard view, and prev and next commands in DCS controls

@Minsky: The threat code for the Arleigh Burke (315) on your RWR kneeboard page is incorrect. The correct code is 412.

Hey, noticed there is a small error on your lat/lon/grid examples window.

It says it is DD*MM.mm' and DD*MM.mmmm' respectively but the examples are DD*MM'SS" and DD*MM'SS.ss" respectively.

While looking at it I also noticed it doesn't show the two different modes the Hornet can take, but adding in both modes wouldn't fit the square, so I drew up a really quick mock-up.

Hey! Sorry for the 2nd post nitpicking! I think your kneeboards are the best and most well researched ones I've seen, which is why me and my airforce buddy went through them because they are so close to being perfect. Your kneeboards are seriously awesome we are both extremely impressed!! You clearly put a TON of work into this and did your research

Couple more nitpicks if you're not annoyed yet

1) On the HAIL-R DDI configuration, the R-DDI should be set to FCS - You need to confirm your flap position via this page and can't rely on lights or switch position. Landing Weight/Fuel can be checked via CHKLST temporarily and doesn't need to remain up.

2) Minor error here, just a mix up of words

YwlUlTD.png

Should be DME = Angels + 15

@MARLAN_ What do you mean by Hail R DDI configuration? DDI configuration is not specifically mentioned in the HAIL-R checks other then I for Instruments.

He meant this part in the checklist:

It actually makes sense to have it on FCS for the reason he mentioned, and switch to CHKLST only when needed.

Will be fixed in the next update!

Yep, another user already spotted this a few days ago. Will also be fixed in the next update, thanks!

@Minsky It is up to you..

The following display setups are specifically for the F/A-18C Hornet. These are the display settings taught to pilots in the FRS (initial F/A-18 training squadron) but they are not standard operating procedure. Therefore, use them as guidance to improve SA, but freedom is given to deviate as required.

In marshal: (any case)                                                            Left DDI: HUD                         Right DDI: Radar (For SA)                      MPCD: HSI

Just prior to leaving marshal until touchdown:                    Left DDI: HUD                          Right DDI: Checklist                              MPCD: HSI

Yes @MARLAN_ made a valid point, however that is not teached in FRS, at least not at the time of the legacy hornet.

It’s possible some guys see they are clearly below max trap and then put up the FCS page. Those are both techniques. No wrong or right... It all comes down to personal preference and technique..
