Advice needed? CPU

Recommended Posts

I put my 3900x into my daughters build with the intention of replacing it with a 5900X. It’s impossible to find a a 5900X at its list price and it looks like it’s play the lottery or wait till July when stock might appear. Is it that much if a hit if I just went with a 5600X? I don’t do intensive productivity stuff or do I stream on my system anyway. I’m thinking no but just wanted to get done thoughts before committing. Thanks.

Right now for gaming the 5600X should be better then a 3900X due to clock speed and IPC.  It really depends on the game though and how well it takes advantage of more cores.  Most games don't benefit much from more then 4 cores with hyperthreading, however this paradigm is shifting ever so slowly in the industry.  If you aren't doing productivity or streaming Gamers Nexus recommends the 5600X he believes you really don't need the extra cores, but this also takes into consideration cost.

All that said, I doubt you will see much difference in DCS between these two CPU's.

Same here - wanted a 5900X but went with the 5800X. In gaming benchmarks, no difference. And do you really need those 12 cores v 8 cores? Same memory controller too, so less bandwidth with 12.

Thanks appreciate it. I’m leaning towards the 5800x so I may
Pull the string and in that.

For gaming a 5600X is more than enough, cheaper, performs very well...

I went with the 5800x and am quite pleased with results. I think I lucked out on the silicon lottery, but in DCS the cpu is boosting beyond the rated 4.7 it’s marketed as. I see it getting up to 4.8+ on the F32 bios.
