What am I doing incorrectly??

Well, everything, i am afraid.

Your engine is not overheat, actually opposite it is cold.

Oil is cold and that is the reason why oil pressure is too high. It could be first reason fot the engine failure.

The second reason could be that you use low RPM for manifold pressure you set for take-off.

For 40+ inHg you must set 2550 RPM at least.

For take off use Max rpm and at least 40" using lower rpm and lower MP you will clag your engine.

Second oil temp minimum 30C-40C, head temps i don't care.

The number of times I have cooked the engine on a Jug I can count on 2 fingers.

The Mustang, not so good. The Merlin engine needs constant monitoring, especially oil temp.

With the Stang, you fly the engine. With the Jug, you fly the plane.

Since last update, you don't warry about Mustang oil temp, it has no affect on engine. You can close oil cooler completely and hit +100 and nothing happens engine runs fine.
