Just revisiting the MIG29. (and loving it).

Why is it that when performing an ILS to an airfield equipped with a Russian ILS system in LDG sub mode that the HSI ILS needles only come alive at around 9Km ? Yet the FD circles in the HUD and the fD bars on the ADI all come in to view when you go into LNDG mode and the H and r HUD legends appear. I would have thought all would be displayed at the same time.

HSI ILS needles appearing at 9Km is a bit useless 🙂

It’s almost as if the HUD is representing the info from the ADI (even though the localizer and glideslope indicators are there) until you reach that point. If you watch the HUD closely enough, you’ll see a little twitch in the HUD indicators when the HSI flags disappear and the needles go live.

It's a bug (or underdeveloped feature). They will probably never fix it. Real PRMG system has good range.

Do not expect fairness.

Roughly 25km, isn’t it?

Google says:

PRMG-76U/PRMG-5

Localizer: not less than 45km

GS: not less than 18km

DME: not less than 45-50km

Look at L-39, PRMG work out to 60-90km easy. The distances "not less than" are minimum service volume specifications, if below this spec then not allowed. But in practice can work 2x spec all the time. It's the same on angles, PRMG width is I think +-18 degrees spec but in practice about +-22-25.
