Terrain avoidance radar mode

TA is part of the radar suite, it should definitely come (along with VS and PVU). It was also available with the older APG-65.

Hi,

terrain avoidance is being considered for the future, but not terrain following, it would not be accurate for our hornet.

thanks

Hey BN, what do you mean by considered? It's a standard mode of the radar and integral to low level IFR. Even the older APG-65 had it. Is there a chance that we won't see it before the Hornet is completed? (I'm not talking about exiting EA, I'm talking about the Hornet being considered complete).

If it's an issue of being unsure about our radar supporting it, I can PM info.

Gents, it gets worse....Discord comments suggest VS mode not planned at all....

Why have complete standard radar modes not been considered yet? They are not data restricted nor hard to get info on.

seems like they are running out of assigned time and budget, and are cutting off functionality.

speaking of which, i havent heard anything about emcon, gen-x, tald, mk 77 or seamines either 🤔

edit: roadmap post from 10 months ago mentions them. i hope that its still valid.

Hi Bignewy I found below could could it still be a thing?

The F/A-18C Night Attack Hornet has a pod-mounted Hughes AN/AAR-50 thermal imaging navigation set, a Loral AN/AAS-38 Nite Hawk FLIR targeting pod, and GEC Cat's Eyes pilot's night vision goggles. Some 48 F/A-18D two-seat Hornets are configured as the F/A-18D (RC) reconnaissance version, with the M61A1 cannon replaced by a pallet-mounted electro-optical suite comprising a blister-mounted IR linescan and two roll-stabilized sensor units, with all of these units recording onto video tape.

Is this similar to the F-16C TFR and RECCE mode ?

Where you have Terrain Avoidance, do then the systems provide some sort of terrrain following via pod display then put in HUD.?

Terrain Avoidance is a radar mode, selected via the A/G radar menu. It simply displays incoming terrain as above you (high intensity), unsafe (between 0 and 500 ft below you - intermediate intensity) or safe ( more than 500 ft below you - not displayed).

I believe GEN-X, MK.77, and Sea Mines are all canceled.

In the case of Mk.77 and Sea Mines, I recall Wags saying that they may be implemented in the future when there is actually DCS World support for such weapons.

The Hornet does not have TFR capability, merely has a Terrain Avoidance radar mode, that informs the pilot of the terrain ahead. The pilot has to manually fly though.

I mean, it's already available to select as an A/G radar mode, it just cannot be selected. It's already been implemented in other DCS modules, there's no good reason why the Hornet shouldn't get it.

Indeed, a word from ED would be nice.
