Markindel's HSwMS Visby K31

 

This is a re-made mod from long ago, up-dated for 2.5.6.

 

Includes new animations, code and textures.

 

She has a single spawn/landing deck available for both ai and player.

 

This mod will be up-loaded to the user site after sea trials!

"HSwMS Visby is the lead ship of the Visby-class corvettes. It was built by Kockums at the Karlskrona naval base, and was the first of four vessels of the class which are designed for coastal warfare.[2]

The hull of the vessel is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, a stealth technology, in order to make the vessel difficult to detect by other forces. A minimum of external equipment is stored outside of the vessel, with equipment such as liferafts being stored inside the hull.  This hull also reduces the weight of the vessel by around half. It was intended to be radar silent until it moves within 30 kilometres (19 mi) of an enemy vessel, resulting in designer John Nillson saying of it, "Naval officers fall in love with [this] ship. It's not classically beautiful. In fact it looks like a lunchbox. But it has better maneuverability and can achieve that level of stealth."
Service

Visby completed sea trials in 2004. The ship underwent a further eight years of tests by the Swedish Defence Procurement Agency, before being delivered to the Navy in late 2012. These tests included the firing of the RBS15 Mk2 AShM, which took place in July 2012.  In October 2014, Visby was amongst the Swedish vessels patrolling in an exercise for finding the source of "foreign underwater activity" which was rumoured to be a Russian submarine, identified by distress call. This rumour was denied by the Swedish authorities, who described it as a "intelligence operation".

I'm currently working on the Gripen mod and was looking for more Swedish DCS assets. I found and downloaded your HSwMS Visby mod a while ago (based on Markindel's initial release if I'm not mistaken). 

I really liked the mod and decided to see if I could improve on it even more. I've made a number of changes, but would need to have access to the 3D model for a lot of the planned changes. I guess you have the model since you've made changes to it? It would save me a lot of time if I don't have to create a whole new model. Would it be possible to gain access to the model? You and Markindel will naturally be credited.

Here's some of the stuff I've done, and a couple of things I'm planning to do.

Done:

  • Changed the cannon from generic artillery to the actual Bofors 57 mm Naval Automatic Gun L/70 Mk3 (sw. Bofors 57 mm sjöautomatkanon L/70, SAK70) with ability to efficiently target ships, aircraft and incoming missiles up to 17 km.
  • Changed the generic artillery ammunition to new fuzed 57mm HE ammunition.
  • Changed the ships radar cross section and IR emission to emulate its stealth capability.
  • Changed the radar ranges to emulate the actual Sea Giraffe radar and CEROS FCR.
  • Changed the old RBS-15 Mk2 to the new RBS-15 Mk4 Gungnir with a maximum 300 km range. Including new model, with roughmet textures and a new weapon configuration based on an antiship missile scheme.
  • Removed old configurations and redundant code not in use.
  • Changed the ship's speed to reflect its actual performance.
  • Changed the sound of the 57 mm Naval Automatic Gun.

Todo:

  • Changed the sound of the missile launch.
  • Changed the models from KSP58 to KSP88.
  • Changed the sound of the KSP88.
  • Added boosters and folded fins to the RBS-15 Mk4 Gungnir.
  • Removed the mast.
  • Fixed the gun clipping to the cupola when closing.
  • Added animated launcher caps.
  • Added animated gun recoil.
  • Changed to high resolution roughmet textures.

Here's a clip which showcases some of the new updates, not all though (for example, the gun tracers are only for viewing purposes in the videoclip).

Release version 2.0 by Currenthill

The new version includes the HSwMS Visby K31 stealth corvette with some artistic freedom compared to the actual ship, like the ordered but not installed short range SAM. I went with the most likely implementation, the dual 3-cell ExLS launchers with a total of 24 CAMM missiles.
