OCR-scanning of SFI AJS37, part 1-3

Hi,

Being a Viggen "fanatic", I have started converting the existing photocopies of the SFI AJS37 documents as well as ATIS37. The result is pure editable documents, cleaned up and graphics replaced where possible, made to look like the original in every detail. Part 1-2 is done and available in PDF, Word (.docx), LibreOffice Writer (.odt) and Google Docs. Note that English translation is not yet available for SFI part 1-2, but ATIS37 has been translated to English

ATIS 37

Update 2023-12-06: ATIS37 conversion is done! Both Swedish and an English language version are available for download.

Provided are the Word-document, exported PDF-document as well as the Publisher-file containing all of the flight diagrams.

SFI AJS37 Part 1:

Update 2021-12-10:

Creation of the document SFI AJS37 Del 1 (Part 1) has been started, see last post for details and screenshots.

Update 2021-12-17:

Work-in-progress: PDF of the first 47 pages available here: https://mwiden-drive.mycozy.cloud/public?sharecode=48CbTbDAeY3T

Update 2023-01-29:

50% milestone reached, 300 of 600 pages done! I will continue with the goal to have it completed by April. An english language translation of the document is also planned. After that I'm thinking about converting the ATIS 37 (Viggen training) document, that could be cool, right? 🙂

Update 2023-04-24:

Yes! It's finished! After a lot of hard work, it's finally available for download. What a journey it has been!

For more info (in Swedish) on the project and it's progress, see https://mwiden.gitbook.io/ajs37/

I could have put this topic as a post in the AJS37 documentation topic, but since it's work in progress that will take months, I figured I'd put it in a separate thread.  😃

Wow! Thank you very much, mate! I can't read Swedish but it will ease my pain the next time I'm looking for accurate data. 😄

Thanks man! Yes, Swedish is kinda hard to learn on a whim 🙂  But hte English translation is on it's way, probably within a couple of weeks or so. I'm starting working on part 1 next week to keep things rolling. After the SFI's are done, I'm starting on converting ATIS 37 which is the documentation in the SWAF to learn to fly the Viggen, with excercises and stuff!

Thanks! This is my tribute to those who worked hard, including yourself, to bring these historically important documents to the wider public. Once you get into it it's kind of addicitve 😀

Thanks guys!

I'm now the process of translating it into english. Here is a rough work-in-progress: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RY0PL5KTbTrr6ruNS3k4rlKJHI5MrWRw/view?usp=sharing

The goal is to do a proper translation and not just run it through Google Translate. There are many differences between the swedish and enlish labguage in terms of grammar etc. This should be done right. I have some help from the JA-37 SFI that is in english as well 😀

I'll keep you posted!

This is awesome! As a native English speaker who doesn't speak Swedish, is there any way I can help with the translations - either by donation, proofreading, or something else?

You know, that's very kind of you and all help is appreciated! The base translation has been done by automation in MS Word, it's really practical, but needs editing where translation is lacking. Also, the auto-translate often misses some crucial grammar and sentence building. When version 1.0 is done, you're more than welcome to do some proofreading, I will post the link here in this thread. Thanks!

The next installment is on the way, SFI AJS37 Del 1, which is the public document that was never classified. However, this is a special variant, coming from the F15 Söderhamn fighter wing, with some pages specific to the F15 pilots and crew. Attached are a couple of pages of work-in-progress. Thanks to everybody who has given me feedback so far, keep it coming, much appreciated!

Amazing work, thank you so much for doing this! Looking forward to the completed version!

Thank you, it's a lot of work and I realized that part 1 consists of over 600 pages *gulp!* But hey, let's do this! 😀

Here is a PDF of the first 47 pages created, work-in-progress of course:

Please send address, you might need a lot of coffee there ...

So true! It's quite meditative to do this conversion actually. I have now also set up a small PC (Intel NUC) for this sole purpose, with just Office 365 installed. That way I can just switch over the monitor input to that PC and focus entirely on the conversion. Of course with coffee close at hand and some Spotify in the headphones! 😋 BTW, I'm on page 134 now, so progress is there...
