For those experiencing the second mission loading crash : it'd be very interesting to know if you can all see this "Security Event" event logged just seconds before the DCS crash is logged...

Just checked event viewer to be sure and in my case (second mission loading) d3d11.dll and dx11backend.dll crashes, those Security Events aren't timed with them at all. Nothing in my event viewer happens before or after it's just the application that errored out.

Btw my current windows problem reports page 😄 mind you this PC is running all kinds of software and is not purely used for DCS yet only thing that is crashing is it... but as you can see I am currently having pretty good stability time since 3rd of May

We have three machines running DCS 2.7:

Ryzen 9 / 2080Ti  / 2.7.0.5659 - crashes at second load

Ryzen 5 / 3060Ti / 2.7.0.5659 - crashes at second load

Ryzen 5 / 3060Ti / 2.7.0.5659 - has never crashed on 2.7 second mission load.

Both the R5's are identical in every respect.

The only difference between the three machines is that the R9 and the R5 that crash both had 2.7 complete installs. The R5 that does not crash simply took the update, rather than the entire download of 2.7. I don't know if there's anything in that, but it is what it is.

Guys, please try Vsync in DCS setting, off in Nvidia setting.

Nah, that kills my framerate near cities in 2.7, sometimes cutting it in half down to 30. Thanks, but no thanks - intermittent crashes are lesser evil 😉.

This cutting it in half was the reason for me to try the adaptive VSync Option in nVidias DCS Settings.

Here is a Windows Event Log of a typical CTD on second Mission (including the dcs.log)

For me, this was related to in-game fullscreen mode.  No more crashing after I turned it off.  And using Alt+Enter to enter the fullscreen didn't cause crash as long as I had in-game fullscreen checked off.  In-game fullscreen option was causing crash on second mission 100% of the time.

I have fullscreen optimization disabled on DCS.exe and DCS_Updater.exe

Hopefully it’ll still being working for you 24 hours from now. Others haven’t had long term luck with that.

Does anyone get the sensation that this is caused by the mission editor?

It feels like after you bash the computer around (delete folders, install drivers, et.c) reloading missions works fine as long as you stay out of the editor. Then you go into the editor and do *something* and then some corrupt state get cached and will crash on reload until you delete folders et.c. again.

Does anyone else get the same feeling? Does anyone get the crashes without ever touching the editor?

(I do get the uneasy feeling of being a confused villager trying to appease a capricious crash god🙃)

For me, Mission Editor for sure.

I'd really appreciate it if someone can look at the Logs I attached.

For me, 2.7 was working fine.. until I installed some official mods(fc3 and syria; could be coincidence, not sure).

bignewy advised on deleting all unofficial mods and doing an integrity check, which I did. Worked fine for a day, but started crashing again

I did get the security center thing in the event viewer..

attached are log files.

Update:

I'm getting consistent crashes while still in the Mission Editor.

I delete:

1) C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Local\ Temp\DCS.openbeta.

2) FXO folder

3) Metashader2 folder.

Then I load the sim, go in to the ME, and a few minutes later, crash.   I get a pop up and send off a crash report (about a dozen sent so far).

If I select a Mission and run it without going in to ME, all is good.   Well, except if I crash... then the sim locks up. No graceful exit.   Gotta Cntrl/Alt/Delete to get out.

I have had a CTD just a few Moments ago. Even with turned off fullscreen mode (I tried your hint). It is the same old d3d11 AppCrash as before. Sorry to say, but that doesn't work for me.

I also blacklisted the DCS Folder as well as the DCS.exe in Windows Defender (so it should ignore it) so that the crashes shouldn't be related to the Windows Defender. I don't think it has anything to do with the Security SPP events because I can see them a lot in my Events (even on times when I don't run or crash DCS). And the only thing this events do is to set a restart date for the year 2121 (btw. I guess it won't bother me in 2121 anymore...). But I gave it a try by excluding the whole DCS Folder. That also didn't help.

I did also deleted the OOB DCS nVidia Profile as it had Excludings for SSAO which eventually wasn't a thing in Black Shark 1 but is a thing in DCS now. But that also didn't help.

/edit: I have 0 mods. But I do have the Nevada Map and the Syria Map. The one and only Plane I fool around with is the F-14. But I can trigger this CTD very often by simply start a Quickstart Mission in Caucasus, end it and then start a Quickstart Freeflight in Nevada. When it crashes, it mostly crashes instantly on loading screen as if the Memory or Cache couldn't get flushed and it tries to load, but it can't (but that is a guess for shure - I have no evidence for that).

Your first log shows the second mission loading crash (CleanScenes -> FreeeUnusedResouces->crash). You also have the Lua crashdump some users are having with it.

Your second log shows a DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED crash during a mission. It happened as your PC was trying to compile a shader. Try deleting your current NVIDIA driver (457.30) using DDU, then install the latest version (466.27).

Your logs show the same crash on second mission loading. No Lua crashdump for you.

More anecdotal analysis.

I changed an audio setting, flew a mission, restarted the mission and got a dx11backend.dll crash. So I restarted DCS and tried the same sequence of play -> restart - resulting in the same crash.

Then I disabled Real-Time Protection and tried the sequence again - no crash this time. I quit DCS, re-enabled Real-Time Protection, restarted DCS and tried the same sequence again - no more crashes. For now ...

EDIT: nope, this doesn't consistently prevent the crash either.

One thing I have noticed is that my log files are all 2 hours behind my system time for some reason. That is, the above crash log is labelled as 11:56:24, but it actually happened at 13:56:24.

I've been struggling with this for a couple of weeks now, tried many of the fixes without even finding this thread. Deleting folders, running repair, removing mods. In the end, the issue persists. I don't get a crash report but DCS does hang on loading (never on the first mission) and remains non responsive in the task bar. The portion of the loading screen where the freeze occurs is attached bellow. Removing on mods (in my case just some Reflected liveries for the F-14A) remedies the situation, but the crashes do eventually come bask, just not in a regular manner.

latest test, removed the backup folders, ran a mission in about a dozen successive times. Changed map. Ran another mission a dozen times. No crashes.
Then i went MP. EVERY server requires a clean client! I know my install is clean, but i indulge DCS. Exit to desktop, run the game again. Go MP. No errors. Went to Dogfight server, let the guys shoot me several times. Respawned without issues. I exit the server, go SP, run an instant action.........and DCS hangs like bellow......

Is this the same bug you guys are getting?

Oddly, since my last post and despite no changes, we have had no more crashes on any of the three installations, despite multiple missions/reboots etc. Nothing at all. In fact, this morning we ran a series of missions with a well-known YouTube channel, all running the latest 2.7 beta, and the whole lot was filmed and the whole time I was thinking "It's going to crash in a second", and it went without a hitch.

So, for us, for the time being, it would appear to be solved, but I haven't done anything to fix it other than install the latest patch. There was one crash on both our R9/2080ti and one crash on one R5/3060ti, and nothing since - no Win10 updates, no other software updates that I have noticed. I expect that's across 20-30 missions loaded, been in the ME a bunch of times ... zip.

Yes , exactly what I experience , I can play a few missions then when changing theater / map it stalls and I have to CTRL ALT DEL back to the Desktop .... DCS not responding in task manager , forcing a hard reset !!

Usually happens in the F14A caucasus dogfight mission load !

In a way, I'm not surprised at this. My crashes come about 24-36 hours after I have deleted FXO and the folder in TEMP...and closed and restarted the sim at least once. I'm currently leaving it running and, so far, no crashes for the last 48 hours. Wondering if can last the weekend.
