2.7 - jumping clouds in VR?

Same here, no matter what quality of cloud I opt for, they are always stuttering a little up and down.

The jumping clouds are definitely annoying, but it is far from unplayable in VR.

I see the jumping clouds as well, and like others was somewhat underwhelmed by the clouds in VR, compared to what was shown in the trailers. It could be that this is just in VR, I haven't tried 2D yet.

However, I experienced a performance improvement, even with clouds in Ultra. In fact I figured I could up one of my settings so I'm now using shadows at the highest level and runs great.

I'm using an Index at 200% steamVR and PD 1.0.

I’m going to give this a shot. No jumping clouds but with index at 150 and PD at 1.1 Very grainy. Move to 1.3 and it gets sharper(naturally) but completely destroys fps in multi player.
The frustrating thing is adjustments get refined and running well in Sp before moving to mp. Spend 5+min every time cold starting a plane get airborne and everything is great until I engage then its slide show city. Rinse and repeat
what a pain in the balls....

I believe there is a way to correct this issue... the trouble is your cockpit size.

Go to VR in settings- Force IPD Distance.  I put mine to 55 forced, it made my cockpit the right size for me and at the same time corrected the clouds.  No more Jumping!!

Test it out for your system and you will  see what I mean.

Good Flying!!

PS.. Please let me know if it works for you, Thanks

They confirmed that clouds are fixed in the internal build. Hopefully it will be pushed to openbeta soon.

"All but fixed", is not "fixed", but it's better than nothing. Also we're not sure whether he is talking about the quality of the clouds, or the jitter effect, or both. Either way, it's good news but like with everything regarding DCS World, we all need to be patient. This is still an open beta, things are subject to change and things take time, sometimes a lot more time, and sometimes other things get broken in the process. Stay patient, and you won't be disappointed, in the end Eagle Dynamics usually delivers.

I took that to mean all but fixed at the time of writing, and that once in openbeta would be improved upon. And yes, 1. stop the jitter and 2. improve the look would be awesome. I appreciate how these things can be tricky to sort.

I think stuttering clouds (whatever term you would like to describe it as) is relatively minor now -- once I have been hit by the infamous "2nd mission load CTD" problem (a long thread in the other section). In the meantime, I can live with "clear skies and starry nights"...

Why do you change force ipd distance. Is The ipd distanze the interpupillar distance?

Because it's a way of changing the perceived "size" of the game world. Depending on your headset and your own physical proportions, the world can sometimes feel too big or small in some VR games, especially if your HMD does not have mechanical IPD adjustment. For me on my Rift S it's nearly always too small, despite my IPD being set correctly in the Oculus software. So a setting like this is super-helpful to get things to the right scale. I have it set to 55 in DCS.

Depends on your headset, physical proportions, and how your HMD handles (or fails to handle) IPD adjustment. For me 55 sets the world to just about the correct scale.

However, messing with that setting does nothing at all to help with the jittering clouds for me. To people saying that it's still "playable", sure, you can fly around, you can do missions, etc. But the jittering clouds look awful and are both distracting and immersion-breaking, so that is what makes it "unplayable" for people like me. But I'm happy enough to skip the beta and wait for the stable release, so no big deal.

That's weird. Nothing about it in the patch notes. Will have to fire up the game and check it out I guess 🙂

Yeah can't say I agree. Not seeing any difference.

Nineline mentioned that it was fixed internally not that it was ready for the patch. I expect we'll see it merged in with the hind/marianas in a few weeks.

😵Really?? I flew a few single missions with Hornet....Free Flight over Nevada. The Clouds nearest me were perfectly still. The Clouds in the distance still had some jerky movement though not as bad as when 2.7 first launched

Please remember we all have different experiences with jitter. Mine is directly related to micro-movements of my headset.

Nothing has changed for me with 2.7, in fact, it has been worse today because of increased anxiety.

Really. No significant changes in cloud movement in VR in the latest open beta build.
