Game Crash 2.7

jfnelson0127

My friend's DCS Open Beta (non-Steam) is crashing every time he tries to to fly in on our MP server. This seems to have started since the 2.7 updates. He can't stay in the server for more than a few minutes. He is the only one in our group that has this problem.

@jfnelson0127You're experiencing the second mission loading crash bug. This was introduced by DCS 2.7. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.

This is still happening. The issue is really bad with the Tomcat. Latest crash logs attached. Both crashes on second mission load in the F-14.

@XPACT Your and Flappie's efforts are much appreciated - while I have spent quite some time looking at crash logs on here I haven't had the time to deep dive any of it. I saw from another thread you now think it may be dynamic pagefile sizing (which I have on and also experience some crashes). The theory sounds good because the logs show lots of different dlls faulting with Access Violations.

Either tonight or tomorrow I will try fixing my pagefile size and see what happens

On 2.5 I had very very few CTD events and the last one was caused by C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\lua.dll

Since updating to 2.7 I have had 8 CTD events and looking in the *.crash files for each event showed:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_3784df9edffd3314\nvwgf2umx.dll
C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\GraphicsVista.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_5364881c934f6ce8\nvwgf2umx.dll
C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\GraphicsVista.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_3784df9edffd3314\nvwgf2umx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_3784df9edffd3314\nvwgf2umx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_3784df9edffd3314\nvwgf2umx.dll
C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\GraphicsVista.dll

Sensing a bit of a pattern here I updated my Nvidia driver to the latest 466.11 (it was 465.89) and although it is early days so far so good.  If my CTD events return I will report back.

Hope the above info helps someone if early testing proves to be an indication.

As a side issue I mainly fly on busy PVP MP servers and I still find 2.7 takes a heavier toll on my system than 2.5 ever did but I'm sure further optimizations will follow as there are enough people now reporting poor performance in other threads for it to not be a thing.

I am still getting CTD some times without a crash log and when a crash log is written invariably it is the nvwgf2umx.dll file mentioned above.  I have tried the all of these Nvidia drivers; 466.11, 465.89, 461.92 and 461.72.  The crashes are random, irregular and so far seem to be unrepeatable.  I never had this problem throughout all of 2.5.  I've removed all MODs and run repairs but to no avail.  Sometimes I'll get a full session flying and next time CTD within minutes.  They are happening SP and MP.

It is also interesting to notice that as this thread has slowly grown to 3 pages the one guy that had a positive experience got a response from ED within 10 mins but the rest of us, who are having issues, seem to be talking to the wall.  Just an observation.

Adding my name to the crash list.  For me, the crashes in DCS are so hard that they impact other Windows applications.  Steam VR has modules begin to fail, any open browser windows I have in the background will freeze, and Discord goes blank and must be task-killed to get running again.

For me, the crashes happen most often when connected to any multiplayer server, though crashes in SP missions happen as well.

Hi @ShuRugal. Your latest error message is related to me_logbook.lua, line 1118. I think BuzzLine has the fix you're looking for. Please try this:

Your pagefile is tiny (less than 3GB). You should ask Windows to set an initial size of 16 GB, and max 32GB.

One thing I honestly think that will help is that everyone put there system specs in the signature profiles for them and us to compare. Just a thought.

Thanks Flappie!

What's lost on me is how to fix the problem. These threads have become so extended that it's difficult to distill out what the solutions are. What can I be doing? I have tried deleting DCS through "User>AppData>Local>DCS" which has not worked for me. Oddly, I don't seem to have a "DCS.openbeta" folder, just "DCS". I assume this is because I use Steam. Regardless, the crashes have continued. One thing I notice is that the problem is happening mostly with the F-14 module. The F/A-18 seems to be tolerant of second loads.

I saw there was talk of a "page file fix". Not sure exactly how that is done. Can you explain that procedure? There is also talk of exempting DCS from Windows Defender. Is there anything else I'm missing? See recent attached log. dcs.20210429-233413.log

That's because, so far, there are no solutions, only placebos and bandaids.

I need to add an important precision here: some time ago, DCS was using "DCS" folders in "Local", but these are not used anymore.

Nowadays, they are in "Local/Temp".

So here's the full procedure:

  1. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Temp/DCS.openbeta
  2. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Temp/DCS
  3. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/DCS.openbeta (this folder will never come back)
  4. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/DCS  (this folder will never come back)

These are the folders you want to add as exceptions in Windows Defender:

  • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta
  • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS
  • \DCS World OpenBeta\
  • \DCS World\

Hi everyone,

Game crashes here as well.

My rig: Mainboard: Asus Rampage IV Extreme with an i7-3930K at 4.4 gHz, 32 GB od RAM at 2133 MHz, graphic card MSI GTX 1080 Ti GAMING 11G no overclock.

Using Windows 10 Pro up to date and DCS World Openbeta also up to date as of today. No Mod installed. Flying mainly F/A-18C, A10C II, Spitfire, UH-1H on all maps.

This is happening since version 2.7 was installed.dxdiag.txt

Getting frequent crashes for no reason. It's often related to DX11BACKEND errors and it crashes the NVIDIA driver. I do not understand why, my GPU is not crashing with anything else. It wasn't even stressed, it was sitting at ~60% utilization. This problem started with 2.7 and is present in both the previous patch and this one.

This is the error message I get most often.

Yes, you definitely should have at least one of these two. They are used by the game everytime it loads a mission.

If they are nowhere to be found, create them (although you shouldn't have to, the game usually does it on its own).

I think so, yes. For Steam, DCS is "DCS", whether you run the stable or the open beta version.

Nope, still crashing, with the Nvidia 466.27 driver as well. Still DX11 BACKEND errors...

Hi all,

Luckily for me NVIDIA driver v466.27 helped me get out of the constant crashes.

Although I can sometimes see an error notification being created in the event viewer when closing the game, nothing visible though.

The error has the event id 1000 and concerns the ntdll.dll.

But as I said, you don't notice it, you don't feel it.

It's a great improvement indeed.

See you
