Huge FPS gain from 2.5 to 2.7

Recommended Posts

On DCS world 2.5 I get a stable ish 40-50 FPS with everything maxed out.

On DCS 2.7 that more than doubles I get around 100-120 fps!!!

I have no idea why, when it seems everyone else has lost FPS in the 2.7 update.

Anyone else experiencing such gains in FPS?

Hi @dandebo. To my knowledge, some users are having FPS issues with 2.7, most users find little to none FPS drops, but I had never heard of such a high FPS gain so far! My bet is you had an issue with your game files and the 2.7 installation fixed it.

I think you should expect around 100fps with your setup. Most of that comes from your RTX 3080 and DDR4 combo. DCS is quoted as being CPU heavy, but your experience reinforces that the GPU has the most significant influence on FPS. For example, my RTX 2060 super, 32gb DDR4 and i5 10600k can only manage 40 to 60 FPS. The i7 9700 and i5 10600 are fairly evenly matched. So your FPS gain is your GPU. So i would tend to agree with the previous post, that your DCS 2.5 install not quite right. Do you run in full screen or window mode? I noted that 2.5 in window mode gave much worse FPS than in full screen. DCS 2.7 doesn’t seem to give any difference. So your gain may also be due to this difference.

Intel i5 10600k, MSI RTX2060 Super 8GB, 32GB DDR4, Samsung 970 m2 SSD.

There are already 8 pages of folks who have lost FPS and I'm sure there's more to come.

Several users equiped with GTX1050 or 1070 reported they had no FPS drop.

i run a RX570 8Gb (because im forced to with GPU shortage) and my performance is down slightly.  F-16 Free flight on Caucasus with fairly medium/low settings as you can imagine on 2.5.6 i was getting 55-70fps avg.  with a similiar medium/low LoD MSAAx2 clouds Standard etc im getting a lower 45-65fps avg.  on the up side the fps lows are massivley better and even with TrackIR its imersive and smooth.  doing a low level canyon run on 2.5.6 my fps lows could drop to 25fps easy.  2.7 its stuck on 45fps solid.

You had probably some kind of FPS lock, due to issues with a .lua or windowed mode or v-sync or g-sync or any combination of those.

The update just sorted out an issue for you by chance.

As stated above - there is no way (at same settings) that the 2.7 more than double your frames by itself.

That's perfectly possible, DCS will run fine on much cheaper graphics cards than that. Decent visuals and framerates are entirely possible with a GTX 1070, although I wouldn't want to go with less than an 8GB card.
