cobrabase Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I've always used FRAPS to get footage but I gave the AVI file-maker in LOMAC. While slower, I believe that it produces better quality with higher framerates. The problem I have with it is that the only way I can get footage using the LOMAC system is it convert the entire track. Ugh. Tedious. Is there a way to reach the portion of the track I want to convert to an AVI and then switch the system on? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

The problem I have with it is that the only way I can get footage using the LOMAC system is it convert the entire track. Ugh. Tedious. Is there a way to reach the portion of the track I want to convert to an AVI and then switch the system on? Well, I'm not "The Man" but there is no way to run the track to the part you want and, then, start the AVI-maker. Most people who use the sim's AVI maker, make short track vignettes. Then the movies are created from these numerous "takes". I've never tried this myself but, if you have a longer track with only sections that you are interested in converting, give the following a try: Open the track file in the Mission Editor. Start it with the "Edit Track" command. Fast forward using the CTRL-A key combo until you reach the section you want. Press SHIFT-A to drop back into real-time. Once through that section, CTRL-A again to fast forward to the next section you want, etc, etc. When you reach as far into the track as you want, quit and save the edited track file with a new name. Because of the fast forwarding, this should run through the AVI maker more quickly. Like I said, I've never tried it myself, but it seems like it ought to work. You will then just have to cut and past the sections of the resultant AVI that you are interested in. Peyoteros Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Sim shuts down as soon as I press record AVI. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? First I record track, then from Edit menu I start desired track and when in map I select Record AVI and next thing I see is I'm in windows and the sim is down like it wasn't running at all. :( "Eagle Dynamics" - simulating human madness since 1991 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ۞ ۞
LawnDart Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 For all my movies I've always Frapped at 1/2 or even 1/4 speed playback in LockOn (Alt-A). Then, using your movie editing software of choice, speed up the playback rate by a factor of 2 for half-speed captures and by 4 for quarter-speed captures, if you want it to playback in real time. It effectively doubles, or quadroples your framerates allowing each rendered frame to be smooth as glass. Zorrin Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Actually you can choose to record sections of a track. If when you load the track you should see the start time and end time in the top right. (The box where you select/create units in the mission editor). In this box you can set the start and finish times for both playback/recording for this single session. Peyoteros: I had that problem too. It started after I tried to edit the "record avi" resolution in the cfgs. Only way I solved that problem was to do a full hard reinstall. Azrayen Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Because of the fast forwarding, this should run through the AVI maker more quickly. Like I said, I've never tried it myself, but it seems like it ought to work. I did. It works. :) Sim shuts down as soon as I press record AVI. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Perhaps a codec issue ? I did have the same problem when Vegas (6?) was installed. Not wanting to "waste" time investigating, I uninstalled Vegas, encoded the AVI rushes with LO, then re-installed Vegas for the final making. Cheers Az'
ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted September 18, 2008 ED Team Posted September 18, 2008 Hello, regarding the in-game AVI tool, i can't really help out because i have *never* used it before. And i don't quite agree that it is a "better" tool, since fraps does the exact same thing, as it captures what is seen on-screen into uncompressed .AVI footage. And running on a dual core, you can capture footage at whatever screen res you're using and at full screen, making it possible to make HD quality movies, which will be my next step as soon as i upgrade my pc. And regarding frames, i dont like the movies that plays at around 60+ fps or something, since real movies are actually down at 24 fps. I mostly stick to 29.97 fps for my movies. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page
