More accurate Apparat 27 - AJS37 RWR mod

Recommended Posts

Ever wanted more (accurate) blips and bloops in your favourite aircraft? We'll you're in luck my friend.
I present my "More accurate Apparat 27" ("MA-APP27" for short) mod.

This is my attempt to get more accurate RWR sounds in the Viggen. My goal with this was to get more, and more accurate sounds and sound durations based on each radars actual scan speed and PRF. Each radar I've added/ changed has been researched, unfortunately a lot of them are still classified or just impossible to find the needed data on. In cases where I could not find any data I copied data from a similar radar and and changed it slightly. Sometimes I just did something that felt "right", but tried to stay as close to reality as possible with my very limited radar knowledge.

The mod currently have:

  • 8 EWR
  • 29 SAM's
  • 19 ships
  • 34 aircraft
  • 4 AWACS
  • 8 active A-A missiles

It also corrects the RWR antenna FOV to be 60deg.

The mod does pass IC.

A "short" video I put together for you to get a sense of the mod.

Change log:

V4.9: Added new SA10 units (Flap Lid and Tin Shield), and also C-RAM

V4.8: Added F-15E. Changed a bunch of signals for units for better accuracy. Added high-pass filter for PRF.

Especially that part with the SA-15 shows how off the original one seems to be as yours matches the frequency of the dish's rotation. You should maybe try getting into contact with Heatblur so this gets some quality improvement officially.

I agree, getting something like this included officially would be nice

A new version has been uploaded, "Version 2".
Changes are for the ambulance tone. The ambulance tone, was previously made using a 1000 and 2000Hz tone, alternating every 0,5 second. I have however found a video where I think you can hear it in a JA37.

The new ambulance tone has a 2300Hz tone for 0,2 sec, and a 3400Hz for 0,1 sec. It's not quite correct, due to limitations in how the sound is created, but it's very close..

Uploaded a fix to the signals for Flanker and Fulcrum radars. I had accidentally missed to update the ambulance tone for them in the last update.
Version will be V2.1

V3 is now out with 30(!) new radars being added to the list.
This is because I figured out a way of not using the file that I was previously depending on. This is amazing news, as now I can add pretty much any radar I wish.

If I have missed to add a radar (I think I have most radars in-game modelled now), please add a post in this thread with the missing ones. Goal now is to add all radars.

Hope you enjoy!

is it still the case that it doesn't apply to player aircraft?

I am 99,9% sure that this is no longer the case, as I now can add the correct aircraft type/versions.

I love this! Do you have any sources for these? Are you planning on adding more systems? Would you mind if we incorporated it into the module itself?

Thank you! Can't but the same about your Viggen.

I do indeed. Unfortunately, but expectedly, some (read "a lot") of data on the radars in-game is classified or very difficult to find. As such, there has been a fair amount of just guessing/guesstimating. The end result of that is that the older cold war stuff is what is most accurate in the mod, as there is a lot more data available on those systems.
Here are the sites that I used the most:
https://www.radartutorial.eu/
https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/links-ground.htm
http://www.ausairpower.net/index.html

For older MiG's I found this

I do have one update coming soon™ (later today), with an even more realistic version where the radars that are outside the APP27 spectrum (2GHz-25GHz) will be removed for those that want it.
The plan is to add new things as the come, like with the NASAMS the other day. I currently do not have anything new planned for the mod, unless the ability to add multiple radars to a unit becomes a possibility. Like with ships that have >1 radar on it, then it would have some work to do. 😉

Absolutely not, it would be and honor to have it added.

Version 4.0

NOTE: This mod now breaks IC

  • Added SA-5 "Square Pair" illumination radar
    • Search - 500Hz, on 0,1 and off 0,2 seconds
    • Track - ambulance tone
  • Added angle limitations to illumination radars to reduce the chance of getting a stray lock tone. It works to some extent but it's unfortunately not perfect for whatever reason

Hey! Your mods are amazing and especially this one. I would like to ask if it would be too much of a burden for you to do list of radar emitters for easy identification after ELINT run with U22/A ECM pod. I'm trying to orient myself inside .lua file but I am having trouble to identifying the different SAM systems. Many thanks for your answer.

Thank you for your kind words.
I have updated the OP with two new links. One for a CombatFlite ELINT library, and one for a spreadsheet.
I hope this will help with your future ELINT missions.

Is this mod fully integrated into the base game now?

I seem to remember reading an update saying that in patch notes over the past couple months and just wanted to verify.

It has indeed been integrated into the module since a few updates.

Version 4.1

  • 19J6 - Tin Shield
    • PRF to 800Hz, to more accurately model the long range mode
  • Rapier
    • Search PRF to 3800Hz

    • Search and track to have a 0,1 rest period
  • SA-15
    • Search PRF to 1400Hz
