More accurate Apparat 27 - AJS37 RWR mod

Recommended Posts

Version 4.2

  • Added AN/FPS-117
    • As the radar’s operating frequency is outside the 2-25 GHz frequency range for App-27, the radar will not give any indications inside the aircraft
  • Added AH-64
    • Same as for the radar above. The radar operates outside the RWR's frequency range, so the radar will not give any indications inside the aircraft

that might explain a few things... I had an incident once when I got shot by an SA-2 from straight ahead without getting a single lock indication

on another note: is the CF elint library file up to date? I feel I've been seeing quite a few "unknowns" the last few times I've tried using elint.

No, it definitely has some that have been changed since it was made. I didn't see much of a point updating it as the ELINT data is so poor. If it's actually used I'll update it

with the current state of the elint system, I don't see myself using frequently enough to bother you about updating it.

Alright I've updated the CombatFlite ELINT library for the latest version. I've seen some confusion/questions on the ELINT so decided so update it.
It will of course only be as accurate as it can be for this new version of the mod, while the version supplied with the module will be less so.
It's available for download in the OP.

What do I do with the elint xml file?

Thanks!

If you want to use the ELINT function in CombatFlite you need to use this file to change the default values for each radar/vehicle.

All you have to do is to go to TOOLS -> ELINT Library -> Import library and load the .xml file.

After that is done the radars should in theory show up with the correct names inside the program when you load an ELINT file from you Viggen.

Speaking of which, I need to update that file for the new ships added.

New update (v4.6) of the mod, this time with two new "ambulance" tones.

Due to some new information I received there are now two different tones: one for CW signals, and one for high PRF (>5600Hz).

  • The CW tone alternates at 3Hz between 1200Hz and 1900Hz
  • The HPRF tone alternates at 4Hz between 1000Hz and 2000Hz

Download link updated in OP.

A library with all (most) the RWR sounds, so you can attempt to memorize all of them 🙃
Link here

The sound go from search -> track -> launch.
Note that some radars only have one or two of those. Some are also not there due to them being outside the RWR's frequency range.

It's not a mod. It's just a bunch of audio files so you can listen to the rwr sounds without doing it in-game; so you can attempt to learn all the sounds that mean you'll be a flaming ball of fire in the not-too-distant future.
So there's not installing anything you just listen to the audio files, and enjoy the bleeps and bloops.

Congrats on joining the Heatblur team! @MYSE1234

Maybe Im wrong here. but shouldn't Apparat-27 have a uniform sound for lock and launch (and for other signals above 5kHz)?

According to this page https://www.aef.se/Avionik/Notiser/Apparat-27.htm

"Audio information was also presented in the driver's earphones at the same frequency as the recorded radar station's PRF if this was lower than 5 kHz. At higher PRF than 5 kHz, or when the signal was of CW type from Kapsel KB, a synthetic ambulance tone was given."

Much interesting audio in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaNt9_sQdGI&ab_channel=MIP At 5:45 it sounds like the synthetic ambulance tone also described for Apparat-73 on JA37 Viggen (in reality, a modified Apparat-27)

My theory is that with a CW lock or launch Apparat-27 is not trying to mimic any type of frequency or modulation. It's a totally synthetic audio cue, like on the Hornet. Much easier for the pilot to distinguish under pressure. The frequency/modulation makes more sense trying to distinguish what might be looking at you but not for CW. Again, I might be wrong, but seems to make more sense?

Thank you very much!

Yes, that is correct and they are simulated. You have a CW signal and a HPRF (>5 kHz) signal. Both of which should be fairly common to hear, specially the HPRF one.

Here you can listen to both of them:
CW

HPRF

Not all units use signals that would use these two signals, so it's not like all locks will have the same one signal, and that all launches will have THAT one. It depends on the system.
