Yup great addition, not since Gospadin's airfield data has a set of data tables been created that's so useful, compressing all the data into a very neat table and covering all the maps

They are a permanent addition to my kneeboard for all modules

Thank you so much @Minsky

- All kneeboards are now sporting the new design, with all data verified for compliance with the 2.7 patch.
- Nevada: the table and Lite map merged together, Lite map discontinued.
- New file names: it's recommended to remove the old kneeboards before updating.
- PDF version added.

@Minsky

Loving the updates, great work as always

Can I ask what changes were made in 2.7 if you have the info to hand.

It may also be useful if these were also made available as PNGs and/or JPGs for inserting into the kneeboard.

I realise that's not there intended function and it's a lot of data in the kneeboard, but I could read the last version fine and it's really useful to have all that data on the one sheet

Thanks Again

Thank you!

I'm not writing down every change, but here's what I can recall for the 2.7.

Syria:

- New airfields: Gaziantep, H4, Rosh Pina, Sayqal, Shayrat, Tha'lah, and Tiyas.

- New heliport: Naqoura.

- Fixed four NDB beacons: ADN at Adana Sakirpasa, BOD at Beirut Rafic Hariri, DAL at Damascus, LTK at Bassel Al-Assad. There are no broken navaids on this map anymore.

- Nearly all ATC frequencies in UHF, HF and FM ranges have changed. And at least two in VHF range: at Incirlik and Rene Mouawad.

The Channel:

- Three new airfields: Biggin Hill, Eastchurch, and Headcorn. Not sure why they're advertising High Halden as "new": it was there since the beginning. Maybe they added a few buildings there or something...

- Merville Calonne and Saint Omer have been completely reworked (new layout).

- Most (if not all) ATC frequencies have changed across all bands.

- Minor changes to magnetic headings of all runways (1-2 degrees)

Normandy:

- Significant changes to magnetic headings of all runways (4-6 degrees)

Persian Gulf, Caucasus, Nevada:

- Zero changes.

Thank You @Minsky

Looks like I'll be needing a thorough revision of my Voice Attack Profiles

I see you've removed the table from Nevada and just have it as a  "Lite" map now.

I'm still using your previous revision table as I particualarly like the tabular table format

Glad your still keeping them updated it's a lot of work and time to do

It's much appreciated by me and no doubt a whole lot of others in the community

Thanks for the heads up, slowly working my way through the process for these, would be nice if someone wrote a script to pass the radio frequencies out each time they change lol

My question, why there is not page with table for Nevada? "Only" the map? Does it have some reason, please?

Thanks!

Same reason there's no table for The Channel: all available data fits on the map, and I have one less page to maintain 🙂

But seeing that you're not the first person asking about this table, I might return it at some point.

Thanks @Minsky That's a lot of work right there

Love the kneeboards, one thing I would like would be to have is Normandy and in Nevada in tabular form, but as it is these are a fantastic addition

The kneeboards and going to the trouble of alerting us Minsky fans is very kind of you

You mean The Channel? I'll create the table once they add a bit more airfields, or at least move it out of EA. With just 12 locations, the page will be half-empty.

Thx for the today's update @Minsky!

Into which directory do I have to extract the PNGs, that they only become visible on the current map?

I. e. I'm flyin' in Syria and all Kneeboard pages other than Syria are not shown...

Is it

"{DCSInstallationPath}\Mods\terrains\{map}\Kneeboard"?

Because

"%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS\Kneeboard\{map}"

doesn't work. Or should I extract the files into another directory?

Time for another update:

TL;DR:

Thank you, you've obviously put a lot of work and thought into these.

I'd suggest rewording the "Page Header" conversion to

• "MAGNETIC to TRUE in 2015-2025 +10 deg"

to make it easy/constant with converting your chart's magnetic bearings to true and do the same for your other maps/tables.

Detail

Unfortunately I haven't "felt" comfortable using of your charts as, although using magnetic headings through out, the page header at top of each page lists the TRUE to MAGNETIC conversion (which wouldn't be used with your own chart/table MAGNETIC bearings) i.e.

Nevada "TRUE to MAGNETIC in 2015-2025 -10 deg"

forum_screen_210621-1.jpg

... I fear this may cause confusion* when a player unfamiliar with DCS/MagVar uses your tables to calculate a true heading, as it's easy to think True = Chart figure -10°.

I'd suggest rewording the conversion to

• "MAGNETIC to TRUE in 2015-2025 +10 deg"

to make it easy/constant with converting your chart's magnetic bearings to true.

Alternatively, perhaps make it clear that -10 deg (TRUE to MAGNETIC) only applies when converting from the F10 map ruler to MAGNETIC, however IMHO that would be less constant with the rest of your chart which uses magnetic bearings.

Obviously, these are your charts and you are free to design them how you like, this is just a little (perhaps pedantic 🙂 ) feedback.

Notes:

*Only seen one case were a player did this for the Mirage's synthetic runway i.e. CP/PD (RH/DS) input uses the runway's true heading.

Hi! No worries, I like the pedantic feedback and nitpicking: means there are no bigger screwups, and people have to dig deeper to find anything 🙂

First thing first: these kneeboards weren't meant to be "reverse-converted" back to true headings (more on that below). And this "true to mag" note is there mainly to assist you with the ruler on the F10 map (as mentioned in the description).

In the earlier versions it was titled simply as "magvar", but people unfamiliar with the concept were also confused, not knowing why this number is here, and what they're supposed to do with it.

This leads us to the Mirage example. To my understanding, Mirage's ILS requires a very specific heading (ideally, down to the decimals) to be truly effective in zero visibility. And the most reliable way to obtain this heading, is to use the F10 map, then check the Mirage's computer for the precise magnetic declination, and do a simple math.

What you are suggesting instead, is to use the less precise method possible: to take the magnetic heading from the kneeboard (that may have up to 1,5 degree error margin) and then add or subtract the provided magvar (which is average for the whole map, and may vary by 1-3 degrees).

So I'm leaning towards your second suggestion of adding a remark about the F10 map. If this doesn't work out, I might just remove this line completely.

Syria doesn't support kneeboards yet (known issue), so the best you can do is to limit the Syrian PNGs to a specific aircraft:

\Saved Games\DCS\Kneeboard\{module}\

Otherwise you can just place them into
\Saved Games\DCS\Kneeboard\
and they'll be available everywhere.

For the other maps, copy their kneeboards into the usual location:

{DCSInstallationPath}\Mods\terrains\{map}\Kneeboard\

There's nothing special about the Mirage, when orienteering in my youth we used decimal degrees.

For DCS, +/- 1° of the runway's true heading is more than close enough (subtracting 6° from the magnetic heading meant the player's CP (RH) true heading was 12° in error and their HUD's synthetic runway misalignment with the real very obvious).

As the ADI bars and auto-pilot use the ILS signal, they are unaffected.
