NVIDIA RTX 3060 vs 2070 vs 1660ti value

Recommended Posts

Do you think the NVIDIA RTX 3060 is going to make much difference - vs - an NVIDIA GTX 1660 ti .....on an almost identical laptop... we are talking 1080 resolution here?

Also, there is another option to get one with a RTX 2070S MQ ...but the laptop with the RTX 3060 is a better deal.

I am using  the laptop with the GTX 1660ti right now. It's OK, nothing special, I can get avg 60fps out of it...... but I saw this other laptop advertized with RTX 3060 in it and its a really good deal. I'm just wondering if it's overkill because I don't know what to expect as far as beautiful graphics out of a  1080 res 144hz laptop.

Thanks

My wife's laptop has a 2060 and has played every game I installed on it at max settings at 1080p. For 1080, I would safely assume anything over a 2060 is overkill, except for DCS which of course will take whatever you can throw at it.

I have no idea whatsoever where the 1660 fits in to the current hierarchy, tbh, and avoided it due to uncertainty.

A GTX 1660Ti  is slightly under a 2060 and according to this Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB compare Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GPU (game-debate.com)

but it says that neither much good at running Microsoft Flight Sim at "Ultra".

Own a MSI GL75 Leopard and added an additional 16GB RAM (32GB now) and also a 1 TB SSD in place of the mechanical drive.  It runs MSFS on Ultra at 50-60+ fps

My desktop (see signature) runs MSFS 40-50+ fps on ultra.

I recently bought a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop with a RTX 3060 Laptop GPU and Ryzen 5000 Series 7 CPU with 8 cores and 32gb RAM to replace an ageing i7 and old Nvidia 970M graphics card and am pleasantly surprised. Bought it on a refurbished type sale at a very good price with balance of warranty. Screen is 1080 and getting about 75-90ish FPS with settings on max. FS2020 is great on max settings as well. I think the better CPU makes a huge difference as well. There seem to be plenty of these types of laptops around and you can PC-ise it by hooking up  a big screen and keyboard. Also has space for an additional SSD so added a 1tb to the existing 512gb. So far a great upgrade.

GTX 16xx series are junk because of small VRAM.  Only 6GB.

RTX 3060 has 12GB.  Will make a world of difference especially for VR.

Though it's unlikely the 3060 would be able to fill that big of a frame buffer in most cases. Don't know what nvidia is thinking with their VRAM allotments as of late. IMHO 3060/ti should be 8GB, 3070: 10GB, 3070ti/3080 12GB, 3080ti: 16GB
