Sir_Troooper Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Im planning to buy a new system, but i dont know what to choose. :noexpression:Core 2 Duo, or Core 2 quad. Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16 GHz or Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz I know that the Core 2 Duo would be better for LO and for DCS, since its 3.16 GHz, but maybe the core 2 quad would be better for other programmes? Any help is highly appricated. :) Cheers.:) A.K.A Csocso

Sir_Troooper Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Im afraid that the Intel Nehalem will cost to much... :noexpression: I dont want to spend to much money on it. So what do you think, what would be better, quad or duo? A.K.A Csocso
Sir_Troooper Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Both gaming and working, so i think i will buy the quad then, and overclock it. thanks for your help. :) A.K.A Csocso
Pilotasso Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) Option 3: Wait for the Nehalem ! mainstream Nehalem=christmas 2009 ;) Regarding quad, my Q9550 overclocks like mad, on my old P35 MOBO at 1600Mhz. In synthetic benchies it butchers the stock QX9770 across the board. If you have better cooling it might do 4ghz. Besides they are cheaper, infact not much more expensive than an E8600. the Q6600 is also excelent for OC however you need to search for it as it has been descontinued for a while now. The E8600 will have your system overal cost much lower though. Thats ebcause of cooling needed for OC'ing and you also need a MOBo with large mosfets wich only more expensive high end MOBOS have. zokier Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Well LockOn is 5yrs old now(time flies...) and its still jerky in cities(like 15fps) or if I push the settings too high. I'm somewhat convinced now that I won't live long enough to see lockon run completly smoothly.
-sulan- Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Hehe, I bought Lockon when it was new, but never got in to it (due to IL-2).. Then I bought it again 8 months ago and was surprised I could'nt max it out with my reasonable resolution habits :P IL-2 - when it was new - was quite playable on almost max settings if one had a high-end system IIRC...
