Ironhand Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 As in: "Springfield, BRA 100, 32, medium." Not important but I just realized that, in the above radio call, I don't know if the acronym is pronounced as "bra" (like the lady's undergarment) or as individual letters. I've always asssumed the former but... Can someone "in the know" advise? Ironhand Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Like the undergarment. So do I. :) But is that the pronunciation? Vekkinho, BRA is a brevity call announcing the location of an aircraft (bogie). Since you want to keep chatter to a minimum, one format is BRA: Bearing, Range, Altitude. In my example: "Springfield"=my callsign. BRA=announcing the format of what follows (As opposed to Bullseye). 100=bearing from my nose to bogie (the word 'degrees' is assumed). 32=range to bogie (again unit measurement is assumed nm or km). Medium=bogie altitude (medium=usually 12,000 to 19,999 ft for US). If I was calling AWACs, I would add "Declare" at the end. A BRAA call adds Aspect, as GG states, as the last statement in the call. Ironhand Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Yes it is :) Ahhh... OK. Thank you. "Bra" it is. I'm glad. B-R-A is much more awkward.
