The Ka-50 did not make the list. I guess it was because it didn't rake up combat hours like all the others. Would you guys have included it? Here's the list: 1. Longbow 2. Black Hawk 3. Huey 4. There are quiet few "top 10" and all of them far away from my top 10. Thou there is no one authentic top 10 made by helicopter pilots who have flown all 10 of them and can put them in correct spot on the list. About ruskies there was something like "Oh, the Russians also made some helicopters, but lets not talk about that..." I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. deviletk Posted September 24, 2008 Share Posted September 24, 2008 That list i presume is from discovery channel/history channel and the tv show adds how long the heli has been in service, kills, fire power etc etc. So sometimes they win in that list for have been in service the longest with the least shot downs for example. In one of those series regarding top ten helicopters, Huey was number one.. Apache followed that... UH-60 and Hind was on the list AFAIK... But theres been the same "best helis ever" that didnt have the AH64 at top. I tried hard and long before posting to remember but i couldnt. For example in one episode with fighter jets the P-51 won over many of todays most advanced fighters as P-51 had seen most action and had best ratio kill/death i think. And dont forget that one about tanks where Leopard 2 won over M1A1 even though it hasnt seen as much action... In that episode they went on technical stuff, speed etc. Very confusing, yet fun program :D But yeah: Where the HELL is the KA50? It should have been in that show and won, or at least score high in their "fear factor" point thingy. They have that too sometimes, and i think seeing a KA50 coming with its sleek aggressive profile towards you with that payload hanging on the wings... would make me crap in my pants anyway. :lol: Edited September 24, 2008 by deviletk Regards Alex "Snuffer" D. crazyeddie Posted September 24, 2008 Share Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) My all time favourite was the old British Sioux, underpowered engine, 2 seats, 3 at a push, it could just about lift a bycyle underslung and it had serious problems making headway in a slight offshore breeze. A mate of mine said it was like trying to fly a Skoda made out of old Tennis Rackets. Replaced by the Scout - slightly better Tennis Rackets !!! leafer Posted September 25, 2008 Author Share Posted September 25, 2008 The show is Discovery/Military channel and Deviletk is right, they rated the copters on several factors: fear factor, service length, ingenuity, cost and reliability. I also saw the one, as Deviletk mentioned, about fighters and the Mustang took first while Zero, Fw 190 and BF 109 didn't even make the list. Well to be honest I think the Mi-28N would score higher on the "fear factor" point, but at least the Ka-50 should get top score on "ingenuity" - single-seat design, twin main rotor and ejection seat. :) .
