Steam has screwed the pooch on there latest Steam WMR VR drivers updates, DCS World no longer works 

 

Steam VR has critical error!

 

I can no longer play DCS World PC version with out Steam VR 1777 crashing as soon as I press fly.

No need to shout, I'm just passing along info. My friend had the same issue last night with his G2 after the update. The above clean and install process worked for him and he was able to fly immediately after applying the clean and repair.

i got in without issue as have others on the new update to WMR for Steam , backing out the beta, via steam might help  you.

 

you might want to log the bug in Steam's VR forum or on the WMR reddit page?  which is monitored fairly regularly by the devs.

 

you also might want to assess if the beta channel is right for you.

for some reason they keep pointing me to the Steam VR WMR redistributables. which doesnt work, are these DEVs morons?

yes it did, and I updated steam WMR Vr, and then DCS started crashing with Steam VR 11770 Steam VR an encounter critical error.

 

this is the second time Steam does this WMR steam VR version update and everything G2 stops working. 

 

until they patch the Steam VR compositor.

..and there are at least 3 of us with G2's that I am aware of that have the WMR for SteamVR update today and don't have this problem.

 

Does the problem resolve when you opt out of the beta version ?

I have no idea if this is related but I had a SteamVR crash today for the first time.

 

I was in MP (Aerobatics Europe), started a T-45, took off and flew for a few minutes before the SteamVR crash.

 

I noticed yesterday that OpenVRSettingsUX.exe had a an option under Graphics named Optimise rendering and improve GPU memory usage which was already set to "On". I don't remember seeing this before.

 

Changed it to "Off" and tried DCS again... repeated mission/flight and this time no crash.  May just be a coincidence.

I saw the original post this morning, so being a masochist I updated and suprisingly all was still well. If it's of any relevance I am running 20H2 with the latest cumulative PREVIEW. Rest of specs in sig and latest Nvidia driver.

That said I have only played for about 30 minutes total today, but launching DCS has posed no issue thus far.

Well, after all appearing to be well after the update this morning my G2 just bluescreened about 20 minutes into 2 consecutive missions. That has literally never happened to me before so something is afoot here...

 

Interestingly, after the 2nd one bluescreened, I terminated the mission on the 2D display to find that I had been awarded the Purple Heart ! (presumably for losing my eyesight during a mission 😉 )

I have been running 20H2 with the latest cumulative PREVIEW for couple of days and all good even with the DCS update also.

I followed SR's advice and started WMR first, closed SteamVR (which opens with WMR), then start DCS.  DCS restarts SteamVR and everything works normally.  I am using the non-beta version of SteamVR.
