TheGrandDuke Posted May 9, 2021 Share Posted May 9, 2021 My current system specifications are: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz, RAM 8.00 GB, RTX-1070Ti, single 2560x1440 display (no VR just SmoothTrack). On this setup DCS 2.7 (Steam edition) runs inconsistently. Constant FPS drops, especially on multiplayer servers, even with medium graphics settings. As I understand it, the main problem is RAM, which can be cheaply bought. However, will it be enough? I want my DCS to run properly on High settings (4K doesn't interest me) in foreseeable future. So I need your help in making a choice between improving my current system with bigger RAM or buying brand new computer (I am not the richest guy, it will hurt, but I can allow myself 1500-2000 euro budget). There is no "RTX"-1070ti, either its a 1070 series "GTX"-Pascal GPU or a 2070 or even 3070 series "RTX", but 1000series did not have RTX but GTX. If it's a 2070ti you could keep that card for 2560x1440, you wouldnt need to buy a better card. For the CPU/RAM/MoBo thing...AMD and Intel, both have good CPU's, the real key factor is what you can buy for a moderate price and what only exists on webpages and wet dreams. If you can keep your GPU 1500-2000 is plenty. If you need to buy a GPU that money alone will need to be burned on a GPU as the market is such as of now. There is no 2560x1440 GPU around for less than say 1500ish €, it's a shame but that's how it is. If not , you could use it in the new build . You could also upgrade the cpu (and cooler) if you wish to a 9000 series to turbo up to 20% faster than the 8400 . (My 9700k turbos to 4.8 , as opposed to your 8400's 4) You can then evaluate your 1070ti , and if you wish , purchase a more powerful 1440 p gpu , even at today's inflated prices , and with all the above upgrades still being within your budget . Thank you for your help! I had i7-4790K OC'ed to 4.6Ghz. Which should be marginally faster than stock i5-8400. And I had 32GB DDR3 at 2200Mhz and GTX 1080 (not Ti) And since I can't buy GPU right now, I only upgraded the CPU, MB, and RAM to Ryzen 5600X and 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz. 3 component cost me $700. Result, I'm getting about 2ms faster frametime in VR. Not sure what that translates to flat screen but I'm surprised that I actually got some frame rate improvement with no GPU upgrade. Loading is about 20-30% faster and I used to get some stutter with a lot of ground activity and that's gone. You will definitely see improvement from just adding more RAM. I'm just sharing my experience so you can get an idea of what you'd get from upgrading other components for $700.
