Guest BKPsycho Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 (edited) Hey all! New poster here - I've spent more than a fair amount of time searching for an answer to why 128/128 is the best setting for the server as well as the players and really have found no explanation. What I have found info-wise is on average clients stream data at about 7KB/s (56kb/s) give or take based on the mission. Also, it is recommended, regardless of how many clients there are, to keep all clients and the server set at 128/128 which is 16KB/s (128kb/s). I guess the setting in the game really makes no difference to how many clients can be hosted or affects the data stream on the server? Then why's it there? My question to the community is why is 128/128 the 'Magic' setting? My flight group and I are trying to figure out why we've been experiencing poor flight-nights - There are 7 of us connecting to a host sitting on a 10MB/10MB LOS Wireless ISP, pings are < 30 ms, no packet loss, IL2 is smooth as silk, light-weight simple missions in LOMAC are fine, but add some complexity to a mission, it all goes to hell - Warping, kicks, CTD, Mayhem, mass murder, riots, death, sorrow. Shouldn't the host be set higher than the clients? We've heard (Read) rumors that complex missions are prone to fun-killing bugs and/or corruption - Or silly stuff like piles of AI units on bridge or building... etc. Thoughts? Input? Is it all true? Thanks! :pilotfly: BKPsycho Edited October 8, 2008 by BKPsycho
GGTharos Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Yes, the host in your case should be set to 2mbit/2mbit minimum .. I'd just set it at 10mbit and let it be, it'll handle your guys just fine. The 128/128 option has been found to work well, and it has more bandwidth available for bigger missions should that be necessary, for the client. The point is, whatever you do, all your clients should have the same speed setting. G3 Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 (edited) wondered about this also, good question: so the 128/128 is just for clients host set as per bandwidth available? as for keeping all clients the same: would be nice if it were possible to force it server side. ignoring client settings, eg: client kbps = xxx kbps maybe in bs with any luck Edited October 9, 2008 by G3
