I'm flying Hornet quite a bit, but I noticed that very first time. What doeas mean an A under a altitude indicator?

And BTW what does mean AGR? I know it's Air-Ground Radar, but what does it indicate?

  • Solution

AGR stands for Air to Ground Ranging, where the radar is used to get the slant range to the target. This mode is automatically enabled when you go SCS Fwd when in AG mode.

In addition, the letter underneath the altitude is an indication of what method the computer is using to calculate slant range. 'A' indicates AGR, 'B' indicates barometric ranging, and 'R' indicates RADALT ranging. The computer will select the best available method based on a priority order (AGR -> Baro -> RADALT).

Just to make sure...  SCS forward forces AGR and takes the computer out of the selection loop?  You can go back to computer controlled ranging by pressing 'Undesig.' (will also undesignate your target if designated) or SCS toward the radar page.
