General Question about TPOD (Elevation and Range)

How does the TPOD know exact Elevation of Terrain and Slant Range to the Object? I thought to myself that it maybe uses AG Ranging, but i turned it off before trying. Also it cant be Laser Ranging, because its in excess of 40nm...

I believe when the aircraft is in theatre it has a surveyed map uploaded to it, like the DTS (digital terrain system??) in the A-10C. So for a given lat/long, elevation is xxx. This is all integrated and used by the TPOD.

Cheers!

It's been discussed before regarding the inclusion of TAMMAC (basically the Hornet's equivalent to the A-10's DTED) in the OFP. It's kind of a weird gray area regarding if it was implemented before or after the version ED is going for. If the pod's ability to know exact coordinates becomes more ambiguous in the future, I hope we see a proper implementation of laser ranging beforehand.
