Is my throttle bricked??

This just started today... Windows won't recognize my throttle: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I've tried a different usb port, uninstalling and reinstalling the device, disabling and re-enabling the device. Powered off the PC and unplugged, left it for about 5 minutes to be sure all power was drained. Started everything up and plugged the usb devices in, one at a time. All works fine, except the throttle. Also reinstalled the Thrustmaster drivers, to no avail.

Have you tried looking at it in TARGET or see if the TM Calibration tool sees it? Are you using the MB USB ports?

Have you tried restarting Windows, rather than shutting it down and turning it back on? Win 10 behaves differently by default than previous versions, and during a normal shutdown will 'hibernate' the kernel to storage, for faster startup. A restart will sometimes fix odd issues that shutting down won't, since it gets things going again from scratch.

I'm running my sim gear off a powered usb hub. So I tried plugging into a usb port off the back of the PC. No change.

I have restarted Windows several times. The power down was the last option. I reinstalled the drivers to every USB device. No change. Right now I have it unplugged from the PC, altogether, thinking maybe a complete power drain from the electronics of the throttle might do the trick.

 

GaryR, yes. When I look in the game controller control panel, the throttle doesn't show up.

 

I do usually run a Target script for the throttle, but I didn't start that up at all.

Didn't work. Works fine on the joystick, but the system never fully recognizes the throttle in order to reload the firmware. And I have confirmed that the issue is the throttle; not the PC - got the same message when I plugged the throttle into my laptop.

and 3b doesnt show anything up ?  if not you may well be hosed ...

I contacted TM tech support. Just now uploaded them the info they wanted. I think it's still under warranty, bought it April 2020.

TM says it's out of warranty (I thought the warranty was 2 years?). It appears to be a bad PCB. I found a guy on Ebay that does these repairs, which is a lot cheaper than having TM send me a new board.

12 months is pretty standard in most bits of Europe.

Sent my PCB off for repair to the Ebay merchant. What is usually the major cause of the PCB failing?

I was told this occurs a lot from power surges while plugged into a powered USB hub. Not sure how accurate that is, because yes, I was plugged into a powered hub BUT that hub is plugged into an uninterruptible power supply - on the "battery backup" side. But just in case, from now on I'm plugging the throttle and stick directly to my PC.

interesting, mine was also in a USB hub... but,  again similarly protected.  Good tip, though i may have to run a usb  extension cable or maybe a separate unpowered hub

Thinking the same thing! I just grabbed 2 extensions for that very reason.
