Campaign 14 -- There are so many bugs, but the track files are too big in size.

Recommended Posts

This campaign is not difficult play wise, but the bugs and script timing is torturing me. I wouldn't complain if it is free. So here it comes:

First of all, please don't tell me about my radar switch or auto start, if player made it to campaign 14, they are very likely to know how to read the briefing. And yes I do manual start for 99% of my sorties.

Second, for others who may encounter "Thunderstorm" after WP4, and did everything in the briefing, please check if you are equipped with NVG, instead of using the default Helmet. I did that on purpose because it was already morning, and I can fly with instrument only in the darkness, guess I could have more use of HMD later on. But no, you will be given the code to turn back and fail.

Lastly, the waypoint for wingmen, I need to take off very soon to not save fuel, because Anvil 1-3 is a slow guy. If he didn't make it to WP1 before 0550, he will turn straight back to WP1 after reaching WP8 without dropping his bomb. Further more about waypoint: Tron 51 and 52 (those two Hornets) occasionally would not follow the main strike package, resulting you have no SEAD plane, they didn't do too much help anyway.

I got shot down after I drop my loads, either by the SA site or the f5, because my wingmen are bunch of unreliable AIs, and it seems like if your wingmen didn't drop their loads the mission won't come to a completion.

Okay, so I put the track file into my google drive. hopefully it will replay the same bug, cause I see DCS plays track files differently every time.

For the Trons went awol on me: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MKhrYjnY01edr9qNpGnS2S2d54CSs1xf/view?usp=sharing

Thanks! I will have a look after new update drops, as these quite often break things anyway 🙂

For the radar, I think it also causes Thunderstorm when you set it to STBY, I’ll see if I can change it.

Weird about the NVG. IIRC there is nothing in the script even remotely connected to that, but I will have a look.

Until we get an AI A-6 no way around the Tron, but again IIRC the push time is at default time and even if player takes off last he should be fine.

I had some complaints about this mission, but not too many - though it is very possible something got borked in 2.7.

Won’t even comment on the AI. We have to make do with what we have. I think the AI in this campaign in general is much more reliable than the stock wingmen…

Anyway, thanks for the report. I’ll check and report back.

Cheers,

BD

I am on the nth play of mixxion 14. There's no joy ever. All Anvil flights disappear after a while. Or they don't even take off. SEAD, sometimes I have observed them, some others they were AWOL. The only flight that is always there is the one E3B + 2 hornets (can't remember their c/s). But usually I get to the drop ALONE, and in the last iteration, I dropped and egressed only to be made happy-from-behind by an F5 with guns.

BD, I loved your previous works but R1 has given me only grief, honestly. Briefings are too long, I'm supposed to read a book I couldn't care less about, and there's plenty of bugs in scripts, which I understand might be due to changes in the sim since you programmed the campaign to now, so not much to do about that.

Sorry, digressing and I don't think you need my feedback.

I'll try the mission again, and will try to save the track, I'll let you know as I'm done.

Hey guys,

It seemed to me like a bug with the Hornet takeoff, but now that it is fixed I'll double check the mission and try to fix it ASAP.

I know R1 is different than other campaigns, with much more emphasis put on the realism, which I am aware is not what everyone likes. The prequel should be a bit more relaxed as we do not have to follow the novel and we were at greater liberty when designing the missions. Still, it will have long briefings, but hopefully it will also be more bug-resistant as it should be less scripted. In any case, I appreciate the honest feedback.

I hope that the latest OB update from today fixed this!

There are so many campaigns that aren’t focused on realism, and basically this one is the only one that is. At least for the Hornet. Please don’t dumb it down, Raven One is the only Hornet campaign I can play without rolling my eyes straight out of my head. Please keep up the realism, it is appreciated.

Just jumping in to also say DONT dumb it down. Its a Study level sim for a reason and if someone doesn't want to take the time to learn it that's a them problem. We do not need another familiarity flight first mission then go here bomb that go here escort this mindless campaign.  Keep up the good work btw im also listening to the book now as well, freaking amazing!

It did. Just completed the mission on the first pass (although Tron 52 and 53 stayed back IVO the carrier...)

Did you mean the radar standby/on issue is fixed now?

Thanks for understanding. I was being quite frustrated with having to replay that mission. However, let me rephrase as from the comments below mine I see something has maybe gone awry with my observations about briefs etc.

I am not asking to dumb it down or anything, the campaign is good, dialogues are nice and everything.

It's just it does not need to be a novel in the briefing text. Keep the brief, brief. Use it to convey mission-critical information. Everything else can be delivered differently. Storytelling devices could be some .pdf in the docs folder if you want to make it optional, or in-flight conversations if you want the player to be exposed to them, you get my drift.

Thanks again for creating this campaign and for supporting it, I really enjoyed it.

IDK what you are referring to? I never had the radar issue with this mission.

Mission goes SNAFU (code Thunderstorm) if you turn ON (or even STANDBY) the radar while on the carrier.

Radar won't emit if in WoW condition, so mission logic should take it in account, same for standby mode.

Basically if you do auto start-up you got fucked-up.

You never do the auto startup. (EDIT: it is spelled out in the long winded brief - which I hated but read - that you really have to turn it on only after WPx)
Also, hope  you don't find the meme offensive. Sto a scherzà.
