Game Stuttering heavily after the latest patch

3D rendering issue.png After the latest patch my DCS rendering has been messed up the GPU will be fine for the first minute then will fall into this pattern on the image where every 30 seconds or so it drops to 0% usage for two to three seconds then returns to normal I'm wondering if anyone has any remidies or is having similar issues? I've tried messing with the drivers removing mods fxo shaders etc. Nothing seems to impact it. Additionally doesn't seem to be a problem when loading a mission editor scenario with just my jet in it but in multiplayer it is incredibly pronounced

It can be caused by a lot of factors. Please attach the following files:

  • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS...\Logs\dcs.log (may appear as "dcs")
  • dxdiag log (how to get one)

Your dcs.log will help us determine if DCS detects an issue (it rarely does in such cases, but when it does, it's often a storage issue).

Your dxdiag log will help us understand what your PC is made of (state of  your hardware, drivers, DirectX settings).

Let's do a simple test:

  1. Go to C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Scripts\
  2. Rename your "Export.lua" file into "Export.lua_backup" so the game cannot load this script, thus disabling DCS-BIOS.
  3. Start DCS and try a mission.

If the issue doesn't stop, please attach the resulting dcs.log (I want to make sure DCS-BIOS is indeed disabled to put it out of the equation).

Let's do a simple test:

Done. No fix. Although it did seem to run a bit longer before falling into stutters

Now that you both seem to have clean logs, feel free to try these different solutions and report back:

  • ensure you have enough free space in your drives
  • add your main DCS folder ( \DCS World OpenBeta\ ) as an exception in your antivirus software
  • System Properties > Advanced System Settings > Advanced tab > Environment Variables... then in "User variables" ensure your TEMP and TMP folders are not set on your HDD (you both have an HDD as your D:\ drive)
  • ensure your pagefile is not stored in your D:\ drive (read the first part of this article to reach the pagefile settings)
  • update Windows (your W10 are 20H1, from May 2020)
  • close OneDrive if it's running
  • disable HPET (howto)
  • disable FPS VR overlay if it's installed
  • disable NVIDIA Share
  • disable Windows XBox bar DVR feature
  • disable Wallpaper Engine if it's installed
  • disable the Windows slideshow background if it's enabled
  • disable Tacview recording if it's installed
  • disable Razer Synapse 3 if it's installed
  • Empty "C:\Program Data\Nvidia Corporation\NV_Cache" folder (hit "Ignore" when Windows says some files can't be removed, it's OK)
  • Empty "C:\Users\Flav\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS.openbeta"
  • Reset NVIDIA settings (howto)
  • Set PCI-E to "Gen3" in BIOS (if you can find this option)
  • For Intel CPU: disable CPU C-State in BIOS (if you can find this option)
  • For Intel CPU: disable SMT in BIOS
  • For AMD CPU: enable PBO in BIOS (if you can find this option)

And that's all for now.

Tried all the fixes proposed minus messing with the bios stuff as I couldn't find it. No change in how the frame hitching was occuring in MP.

 

Wondering if maybe a full reinstall is necessary at this point.

thank you flappie but, in my experience also with other sims, a extended list of task to do to fix usually drive to no fix anything (obiviusly many task I already do) then maybe a full a deep reinstall (not before a deep clean with tools like Revo) will be the only possibile fix.

 

I've omitted to say hat this issue appear after I unistall and reinstall DCS on other drive (a SSD much large due the update of Syria map) then maybe the process cause some error

Ahah, well that's no random list. This is a list of solutions that worked for some users having this issue.

 

So you're both sure your pagefile is not stored on your D:\ (HDD) drive, right?

Yes Flappie, my pagefiles is stored on mai SSD (the same of S.O.), look:

paging is on C, a samsunsg SSD. Allocatede space is managed by Win directly, I dont touche nothing.

 

Btw, with a setting from the post hereunder give me a better performance (online MP 4YA server)

I don't speak Italian, but I understand your pagefile is stored on your D:\ drive. See, I assume "Gestito dal sistema" means "handled by the system" which means Windows controls the size of the pagefile.

 

If you want to be absolutely sure, run the following command in a "cmd" window. It will show you the path of your pagefile.

 

wmic pagefile list /format:list

Start by the command, then: it may save you some time. If you find out your pagefile is on your HDD, I bet the problem will be solved as soon as you move the pagefile (it happened before, and it will happen again).

EDIT: seem your right (I red wrong about my setting) and I perform a modify about paging to C:\ (main SSD) putting min-max 32000/32000 and not more on D:\ like here:

I checked out my DCS log and had lots of errors regarding the shader folder folder from what I can assume is remnants from the VR Shader mod. Deleted the shaders folder, FXO and metashaders2, then rebuilt the install. Gonna fire up and see how things work now before posting logs.

My performance dropped also (on open beta). It started with the Mi-24P release, yesterday it got even worse with the Marianas. I'm wondering why Marianas runs that bad, it's land mass and number of objects is so much smaller than any other map.
