Really hoping this isn't going to stay this way, as being a free map you'd think they'd want it super optimised.. third party maps have higher requirements okay but a core map to the game needs to have far better performance than this.. I often wonder why the testers/dev's test this stuff on super pc's and not common systems that most people have.

I get in general DCS requires better pc's but the fact I can run Syria almost double fps and syria is quite detailed tells me someone messed up on Mariana's.. but I've heard this always happens and in due time they will optimise to be run on the common folks system not nasa pc's 🙂

I mean honestly and not being mean but did anyone at ED test this properly as they should have seen how bad the fps is versus Syria.

No offense but I call bs on this.. my friend has a i7-10 series with a 3080 and plenty of ram and his performance tanked.. still playable for him but close to the point it's not.. being a free map ie core of game this should have better performance than Syria a third party map.

I really also hope for improvements and optimisations, but why are you calling bs on us flying 4 ship all evening long?

We had different systems (one or two people flat screen, rest vr)
I myselfe fly in vr, with a 1080ti, a ryzen 5 2600 and only 16gb ram and had quite good performance, so it is not just raw power but probably some settings or configurations that play together with some hardware configurations that lead to really bad performance for some and quite okay performance for others

Please read the FAQ, I run a 2080 RTX, and I get really good performance, no as good as Caucasus, but this map is leaps and bounds ahead of that, and out in front on detail and quality compared to anything yet released. thanks.

It's not spec related though, almost everyone is getting far lower fps on this new map vs Syria.. perhaps you guys could use Syria's optimization as a reference point?

If it helps though...

i7 2600 Oc'ed to 4ghz, 16gb of ram, 48gb pagefile on ssd, hyper threading disabled, SSD 550 r/w speed, Radeon RX580..

basically a potato, but however I can run Syria which is really demanding at 55+ fps on mostly high settings, mariana's struggle and really struggle to stay above 20 average anywhere near the islands.

Friends pc is i7-10k series, 3080, 32gb ram, SSD as well and his fps was halfed or more.. so quite a difference in pc specs but similar results.. it's a map optimisation issue vs pc specs issue.

I meant simply that perhaps it's flyable for you guys but there's no way you didn't take a performance hit (fps) when everyone even with beastly systems is saying they have had their fps reduced by half or more on this map. Meant no offense just I highly doubt it's running as well as Syria does for you guys.

Not sure how, I get 60-70 fps on caucasus, 55+ on Syria, 20 average on Mariana's.. not trying to be argumentative but there's lots of people saying it's optimisation issues not pc specs.

In a single player instant action mission I fly Syria at about 55FPS unless around large cities like Beirut, my FPS is capped at 60.  Caucasus does 60FPS with ease.  In Marianas I was getting about 45FPS when looking at land, and my max 60FPS when looking out to the ocean.

Thanks for the specs, understand that the Islands are VERY detailed, and very clustered, unlike Syria where things are spread out more, think more in one area. You need to adjust your settings, what you use on Syria may not work on Mariana, its a demanding map.

Remember the specs, while we still have some optimization to do, this is a highly detailed map, this is using tech based on the Channel Map, and because its Islands, the objects are more clustered, there is more trees, and more going on in these areas.

You can see my specs in the signature and with the same settings that I normally have no issues with in Instant action free flight in Caucasus PG, Nevada and get 40-45 majority of the time I am getting max 30fps and not smooth at all. I turned down all detail and forest sliders and made no difference. My g2 is running at 100% resolution and I run PD of.9 no MSAA SSAO etc. Shadows are low and flat for world. 16x AF, Medium water, view distance high and no Civ traffic. earlier this week I already started with a new saved games folder and of course cleared shaders today. FPS since the patch before this one has reduced overall with a noticed increase in frame time in steamvr.

System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X  OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,. Winwing throttle, Winwing panels/MIPs and VKB GF3/MCGU stick, MFG Crosswind V2, HP REVERB G2.

Try turning your view distance down to the lowest, then move it up from there, I can say it has a big impact. You canot compart to Caucasus, NTTR or even PG, this is new map tech, and its very dense populated areas. While it still needs some optimizing, its going to be rough on many.

What resolution do you run in? Are you running 3440x1440 in game? I am not sure if thats not a big hit for a 1070ti.  Also what are your visib settings?

 Hi NineLine,

My specs are:

i5-9600K CPU

16GB RAM

GeForce RTX 2070

Using Steam version and VR

I have tried to set everything to low or off, unluckily without a noticeable improvement.

On the other hand I have removed all the trees and objects with a trigger "remove objects in zone" and I get only +5 / +10fps. So it doesn't seem to be something related with map objects. Maybe this could be a clue to the devs

Thanks!

I recommend, if you really love your current settings, adjust only Visib Range and Terrain Texture, take it to its lowest, then tweak from there till you get something decent. If you are having trouble on the lowest settings, then look at things like shadows and that.

Start with something like this, then work your way up, I can get a good solid 60-70 FPS over the heaviest parts with these settings, and then tune it to where I like the look, and like the performance.

Nineline whats your system specs for these settings to get 60-70fps on Marianas so I can duplicate and start testing ??

Yes, 8G of VRAM can struggle. And the maps you compared to don't use the tech that the Channel and Marianas use, more objects, more density, etc. But as we said, some optimizations are still coming.

I know, but until graphics card become accessible and affordable, that's the reality for many of the dcs players saddly!

And I truly get this, but the game is still going to advance, and become more demanding, we cant sit back and develop at a 10 year old level. Every map that comes out, pushes the limits a little bit more, but I have to stress, the map will be optimized more, but don't expect miracles either.

Thank you NineLine. I don't really understand the point of making the second free map in the game so performance heavy that only the most expensive rigs can fly it at decent FPS but it is a free map after all so I can't complain.

Just consider that most players don't even bother to check the forums or steam discussions and all they will see is a free map which is 97% water but they still get really bad performance even when they can enjoy the Caucasus at full detail.

I really hope the optimization helps to solve this issue or the PR team will be really busy the next weeks. Cheers!

Perhaps this may help? see attached images.. first pic is mariana's notice it's barely using 1% of lua pc usage, whereas caucasus is using 3.5-4% also both pics exact same settings, in mariana's 15fps.. in caucasus 101+ fps.. huge difference.. I think there is a memory leak or coding issue. Also same airframe tested both times on KA-50

also notice cpu present.. a bit hard to see on caucasus pic but seems mariana's is barely using my pc resources.
